Is weighing in more than once a week a real big no-no?

I'm no expert but there are two very valid argument i've read to each side of it...

Weigh every day: Plus side is you're sort of in control and can adjust when you've gone up a lb or two .
Minus - sme people obsess over it and if the weight goes up for no good reason then it kills their day

Weigh weekly - plus: weight does fluctuate daily so you're seeing a more accurate accounting of what you're doing.
minus: if your weight goes up by 5lbs (not impossible) it can seem overwhelming to sme to correct where as if you were weighing dail you could hve done something at 2 lbs

so basically - do what works best for you - but the number on the scale is just a number.. and measurements are probably a better assessment

Motivation is not something you find or lose, have or don't have. It is the product of how you see yourself in the world: active or passive, effective or ineffective, powerful or victimized, normal or pathological.

it's hard not to obsess, right? geesh! i think i weigh myself mon., wed., & fri. just to keep checkin' in and see if i'm at least maintaining, but by fridays, i definitely expect some results.
it's actually interesting too, b/c on sunday nights, that's declared as take out night. i still eat small portions, like a happy meal, instead of a quarter-pounder meal, but it's interesting to see how the weight is up on monday, but back to normal or less on wednesday. probably due to excess salt, etc.
anyway - yeah - do whatever you wanna do, right? whatever keeps you motivated!

I'm surprised at the number of people on the board who weigh daily. I'd bet you'd be hard pressed to find a med. professional who would say this is a good idea. Reason being exactly what was said in the quoted post: Weight fluctuates daily, regardless of what program you are on (or aren't on). People's bodies go through all sorts of changes when on a diet and exercise plan.

The last time I was on my "program" I lost 50 pounds. For a couple of weeks that certain pair of pants wouldn't fit so good, then BAM- they would almost be a little loose! Some weeks my weight didn't budge and other weeks I dropped 5 pounds- it was the overall loss that mattered, not the week-to-week. I talked to a personal trainer about it because I was frustrated that in the beginning after a few weeks the scale didn't move one week and they gave me great advice: Put it out of your mind, and just keep doing what you're doing. The weight will come off, TRUST ME! I'm glad I took this advice because without it I probably would have quit.

There are many members who mention past diets they gave up on. Why? Could it have been that for many, it seemed too hard for the results they were seeing on the scale? That many gave up because it wasn't happening fast enough? It takes months, and more months to see results. I can't see how weighing yourself every day could have a positive psychological effect. Once a week is my reward. I don't get to weigh myself until the end of each week- after I've gone to the gym and followed my diet for a week do I get to know how I'm doing! Of course, I know how I'm doing by keeping a food and exercise journal as well, so if I don't see results on the scal one week, I know I will soon enough because I can see from my journal I'm doing all the right things.

Another thing I do, about once a month, is pull out some clothes from my closet that I've been waiting to wear and see how they fit. Nothing felt better than discovering I was getting smaller by wearing some great outfit that was a little snug and now looks and fits great- and even better when that same outfit then gets too big!

44. Not having vegetables and/or fruit with each meal.

45. Serving more carbohydrates than any other food group for meals.

These are contradictory. Vegetables and fruit are carbohydrates.

I do weigh daily, in fact, morning and night. I record the weights. I find it very helpful for identifying the body's natural cycle.

But it boils down to personal preference. As in other things in life, it's best to Never say Never. Absolutes aren't a good thing to use when discussing dieting, because there's always the exception to the rule.
