lifting weights for weight loss

Hey there everyone, need some help here

I am going to the gym today for the 1st time in awhile, and I was thinking about doing about 30mins of cardio (treadmill) and possibly 45mins to an hour of weight machines, many reps b/c I dont want to bulk up (Im a girl soo yeah)

Ive always read that building muscle helps with burning the fat faster, so just wondering if this is wise to do, I've tried medifast and southbeach, and god knows what else and the only time ive ever got results was the healthy way, so im going that route again.

I have no idea why im in such a rush, Im sure everyone wants to see it "now", but I know in the long run with those im just going to gain it back..and I dont think its worth the literal headaches.
I'm hoping to lose at least 2-3 lbs a week, ive done it before but my motivation SUCKS. I'm on fire for a week or 2, then I have one good piece of fatty food and im done. Im trying to keep with it this time, b/c I have around 35-40lbs to lose, and have lost about 20 already.

If anyone has any suggestions to help or educate me on this, I would appreciate it as im hoping to go later this afternoon.

Thanks!
