You're not kidding- as a Boston native, I can tell you with certianty my hometown is VERY expensive. Its no different than new york in that sense..Boston may have flaws, but it has history, the Red sox, and my family...I love Boston- But if I had the $ would love to live in the San Francsico area- Sanfran is a liberal town like Boston, so most fellow liberal Bostonians I know are moving there...
