That is too cute about you visiting Nessie close up! Where I live in Canada we supposedly also have a lake creature. He/she is called "Ogopogo" and lives in Lake Okanagan. The First Nations (native Indian) folk have believed the legend for years, and who knows? We seem to have lots of sightings - and it is great for tourism!
The one thing I found funny while visiting Loch Ness was that the figurines of Nessie they sell are IDENTICAL to Ogopogo - and both say "Made in China!" LOL
