"Nutrition continues to be an area of interest, and, clearly, there is conflicting information out there," said Dr. Robert Bonow, immediate past president of the American Heart Association. "With the Atkins diet, you do lose weight and experience a short-term beneficial effect on lipid parameters, but the concern would be long-term. Saturated fats are not good for heart health, and many people experience rebound weight gain which is not good."

I've been trying to tell my sister this for YEARS. She's such a proponent of
Atkins specifically. It may have fast results over 6 months, but after 1 year. there is no appreciable difference in
weight loss or in cholesterol levels between it and a low
fat diet.
I'm very glad to see this study - this is what they have needed to look at for a long time. Not just weight lost over X amount of time, but what is really happening in the
body from eating this way.
If someone wants to lower their carbs - there are so many better plans to do it. SB, Zone, Sugar Busters - or just tweaking your macronutrient percentages until you feel good and energetic and healthy.
Nausea from ketosis isn't a healthy feeling ...
God Bless,
