Better honesty than dishonesty!

I personally find that I tend to eat less than I otherwise would if I know I have to write it down - even if I'm the only one who ever sees the writing.
Some people do see a big scale loss when they first start eating more healthily, most of which is water
weight loss. AFAIK, there's no way (healthy or otherwise) to either guarantee water
weight loss or to have a significant initial loss of anything but water. Sad but true - it took several weeks of healthy eating before I saw any scale loss at all. On the upside, once I did start losing, I haven't hit any of the plateaus that plague some people (knock on wood).
Tiny changes you stick with are much better in the long run than drastic changes you don't stick with.
