PS I forgot to add....1200 calories is quite low if you are active..why not add 2-300 calories and 'save them' for an allowed low fat ice cream treat in the evening...or a weightwatchers banoffee or anything naughty but OK..!!!

Talking

Hello! My name is Jacquie and I just sort of stumbled upon this site. I got sick and tired of waiting for my friends to start supporting me, so I am looking toa group of like minded people who know how it is. Up until last year I never weighed more than 150 pounds. I had mono, and instead of losing weight like the doctors were afraid of I expanded. Ever since then, depression has kept me from really cosidering what I am doing to myself. Eating because I am upset and and depressed is my biggest problem, along with being bored. I finally stepped on the scale right before the first of this year and low and behold, I weighed 198 pounds. I am only 5 foot 4 inches tall, so it came as a real shock to me. I have been fighting with trying to get into an exercise program and to eat a better balanced diet, but I have always had excuses, like I had two jobs, or it was too hot/cold/rainy/icy out to exercise, and I have been using the excuse that food is too expensive, it is cheaper to buy the not so healthy alternatives (read top ramen). Recently, I have been putting starting off for the reason of I don't know where to begin, and I don't know what exercises will help me target my 'problem' areas. Getting a personal trainer is not an option, and I think I could do it on my own, with a little guidance.

I am glad to be here and look forward to getting to know everyone, and sharing my experiences with supportive, like minded individuals!

Smile stuck

Hello im new one here, Im desperately trying to loose 16 kg, um i think thats about 36-40 pounds. Ive lost 3 kg so far, but feel stuck i havent plateaud i just feel mentally stuck. And like alot of people spend half an hour on the cross trainer and expect to be 3 kg lighter when i get off. Really need something to get me out of this "stuck in the desert feeling" every thing around me feels and looks the same, must get out, especially out of this body.

Wink

Hello everyone, I just joined and discovered this forum and website. It looks quite useful. I have a very stressful job and there's no outdoor activity in my life. Just working and working and working. I realised that everyday I am getting weaker in my body. Ok, I am not fat but I easily get tired when I walk or take any stairs. Anybody have some suggestions?

You might not be fat, but if you're getting no activity at all, then chances are you're not in good shape... Unless you're chained to your desk 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you need to make getting some activity a priority... it's good for the stress as well...

And do talk to a doctor to make sure that you've got no underlying health conditions.

Talking HELP I don't know what I'm doing wrong!

I'm new to this site, hope I can get some tips from you all out there. I'm 50 and I'm 5'1" and around 150 lbs. I was up to 170 a few months ago, but I started getting my butt in gear and lost 18 lbs. Here's the problem, I work out at the gym 5-6 days a week, 35 minutes on the elliptical (hill workout) then around 20-30 minutes of weight training. I can't seem to lose the flab! If anything I think I am getting bigger. True, I don't exactly diet but I don't eat much either. Usually a piece or 2 of toast in the am with coffee then off to the gym,a protein bar or smoothie (250 calories) after workout then off to work. I am an OR nurse, and when it's busy, I never sit down, but if it's slow I sit down alot. I have dinner about 7:00pm and don't usually eat much after that. Usually it's a microwave dinner around 350 cals and some youghurt. Maybe a tortilla and some cheese. Here's the thing. I haven't lost a thing! I think I'm getting flabbier. I used to do 1hour aerobic (30min elliptical and 30 min cycling) followed by 30 mins weight training and then 1/2 mile swim , as I was getting ready for a triathlon. But a friend thought I was getting anaerobic and burning muscle and suggested I try more times a week and less intense. Still nothing. What am I doing wrong? I plan to try eating more protein and less carbs. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

Have you received good advice? I signed up today. I gained 10 pounds this month. In fact I just got on the scale mid sentence because my last weigh in was 9/6/08 and I wasn't sure where I was at..I can't fit in my clothes though so I knew it was up there.
=( What have you been doing?

Hi lora jean,
I am muru1950,a new member.
You can very well reduce your weight.
You can reduce your weight by simply doing some changes in your life style.
Drink daily 8 glasses of water.Do walking for 30 minutes daily.
Don't eat deep fried foods.Eat more vegetable and fruits.Instead of 3 heavy meals, have 5 small meals.Reduce drinks.Take less meat.Eat more fish and chicken. If you reduce 500 calories daily by diet or exercise, you can reduce 1lb in a week.
