Workout twice a day

Does anyone in here work out twice a day, and if so has it dramatically increased your results? I am not satisfied with how fast I am losing weight so I am thinking about doing a workout in the morning and evening. Does anyone have any advice or information concerning this?

Well there could be a few factors at work here. If you're currently working out once a day, are you unsatisfied that you aren't spending enough time, say 20 mins, instead of 40 mins you wish you could? In that case you might want to design your work out to be more time efficient, things like interval training or circuit weight training for 20 mins, not in the same day though, will get you more results than two 20 min steady state cardio sessions a day. Also what is your current routine like? Are you integrating weight training?

Also what is your current pace of weight loss? 1 to 2 pounds of weight loss a week is very healthy, it stops your metabolism from slowing down too much, and allows your skin to adjust with fat loss, among other things.

If it seems like the scale isn't budging then take a look at your diet. Are calories creeping in when you think you're eating healthier? Soda and whole milk can pack on the calories without you thinking about it, or the random handfuls of things here or there.

I'm not in the kind of shape you're in, but I often find that I lack endurance in my workouts, so I will go do a workout until I am tired, take a break, and then do another workout later on. My scheduling means I haven't been able to do it as often as I like, but I do find myself feeling better if I split it up; it allows me to calibrate myself so that I don't strain my muscles.

I'm not a professional, this is just my experience, but I don't see how it would be bad for you, as long as you make sure to account for the increased activities and likely additional wear-and-tear on your muscles and joints.

There is no need to work out twice a day for fat loss. Work out just for what you need. If you are losing at a healthy rate, have some patience. Stop getting lead on by fast fat loss like Biggest loser or Celebrity Fit Club. For the record a lot of those contestants put their weight back on and most regret doing it. They also had to work out 3-4 hours a day and ate below 2000 calories, most around 1200-1400. You can't do that to your body.

It takes years to put that weight off, do it right and allow some time for it to come off.

Stick to a healthy exercise and diet plan and you will do just fine.

I am getting around 1400 calories a day. I have been walking/running 3-4 miles a night. I try to run one of the straights each lap and at the beginning after a warm up walk I see how long I can run, so far I am up to a full lap. I am thinking about just getting up a little early and doing stairs. In my dorm we have 4 floors so I might try to do the 3 sets of stairs 5 times or something like that, just to get my metabolism up in the morning. Does that sound reasonable?

Hey somethingnew912, I have been doing my workouts in the morning and it's done wonders for me. Actually I'm pretty hooked. It gets me all revved up and energized for the day, and my metabolism stays up for nearly half the day afterwards. Ten times better than a cup of coffee. :-)

Don't feel bad about starting off slow, or staggering morning and evening workouts. If you're not a morning person, just try to do it twice a week. It'll make a difference and you might even get hooked. Good luck!

i exercise twice during saturday, sunday & monday cause i have no school then, and i lose a whole lot more than when i exercise once a day.

so if you want to speed up our weight loss really bad try exercising twice a day for 25mins each, also try pushing yourself while doing it.

I work out twice a day to help keep my blood pressure in check. After a good workout my blood pressure will drop substantially and remain at normal or below for quite a while. I would work out five times a day if I could work my life around it.

As far as weight loss goes, I have not noticed any signifigant affect since I started working out twice a day. Diet still seems to be the predominant force driving that aspect of my fitness quest.

I do 2 cardio routines each lasting 40 minutes and then I do 1 hour of weight training a day. I don't take any rest days. Honestly, if your body can handle it, I say go for it!! Do the most intense workouts you can do cause it really has a great impact on your body! It's worth the pain and it will get you ripped! Don't listen to people who are telling you it's unhealthy to workout this much. If you can handle it, GO FOR IT!!

Hey, its great that you are dong that much cardio, I hope to do that this summer when I have more time, but doing weights everyday is bad for your muscles. You aren't allowing them to rest which will cause injury, and I think it actually hurts the muscle building process when you do it everyday. I'm not an expert lol, but if you go to Steve's diary, you can learn a lot about it.

Hey somethingnew912, I keep seeing a lot of people on here talking about plateauing but everyone seems to keep pushing full steam ahead and not changing a thing they're doing. I'm not quite aquainted with your stats, etc., but I bet if you changed up your exercise routine, added weights (you didn't mention doing them in this post so I don't know if you are or not), and maybe added 100 to 200 cals to your diet something would change (I think that 1400 cals at 249 pounds is a bit low... you might be in starvation mode without knowing it??). Anyway, a plateau is a signal for a change. Maybe your body needs a complete break for a week or two. I'm not an expert so I can't give you any sort of professional advice. But think of your weightloss like the Titanic... you can go full steam ahead all you want, but that iceberg is still going to be there. Change direction before you sink and it could make all the difference. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the response! I actually started this thread a while back. Since then I have realized that weightloss isnt going to come super quickly, its going to take a while. I was just frustrated cause the first couple weeks I was on my diet I was losing 6 and 9lbs a week, but after that it slowed to 2-3lbs which is very normal, i'm just an impatient person. I am still losing about 2lbs a week, so I am not in a plateau yet (I am sure I will face one someday). I have started doing weights, though, and I think it actually made me lose less weight (only 1lb this week), but I have heard thats how weights work, you can not lose much for a while and then have a dramatic loss, so hopefully that happens! lol

Don't be suprised if once you start incorporating weight lifting your weight loss slows down or even stops. If you were not doing any resistance training before you may well be adding more muscle to yourself and muscle weighs more than fat. So even though you may still be losing a couple pounds of fat each week, you may not see any weight loss since you could well be putting on a pound or two of muscle each week. This is in fact good for you, as the more lean muscle mass you have the easier it will be for your body to get rid of that extra fat. This of course is only effective when mixed with a healthy diet. Be patient, those 1-2 pounds a week add up to big numbers in the end.

I workout twice a day sometimes, usually for at least an hour at a time. I dont think it helps much with my weight loss itself, but it does seem to help with motivation and keeping me away from food! I see a benefit and try to workout at least once every day, keeps me focused and on track. good luck
