Supplements that increase metabolism and its relationship to contraception

Hi,

I have received some metabolism enhancing tablets and am worried that it may effect my implanon contraception (the slow releasing hormone stick in my arm).

Does anyone have any experience on this issue? Is it ok to take these supplements?

Thanks!

The name is Thermobol by Maximuscle. I have not taken any yet...I can get a refund on upto 40 days from their arrival so holding out. Just checked on Google and there is not much honest feedback on this supplement. Seems to only be marketing from the producers. I dont know if this is a particularly popular product or not?

THks x

Well the first ingredient is bitter orange peel. That contains a chemical that is a legal variation of ephedrine, known as synephrine. This family of chemicals has been known to increase the risk of stroke and heart disease.

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid, no strong links to advantages in weight loss.

Green tea extract is harmless. Some studies point to a 1-4% increase in resting metabolic rate but that isn't much in the big picture. You're better off brewing a few cups a day and drinking it because it's relaxing.

153mg of caffeine is about the same as a 16oz energy drink. This will probably exacerbate dehydration depending on how much water you drink a day.

Mixed studies on Guarana... some say it aids in weight loss but most agree it's rather harmless.

Capsaicin and Bioperine aid in reducing inflammation which may be driving stress-based weight gain

Some B vitamins and chromium, a mineral, helpful in the right doses for obvious reasons.

Basically bitter orange peel is the most dangerous ingredient, the rest are harmless with weight loss effects based on scattered studies. If you really want to take it, a waste of money in my opinion, then talk to your doctor about it. They'll be able to refer to resources we don't readily have available like drug and chemical interaction guides.
