Rep Power: 8 | | | Ramadan Fasting and dieting? Ok so as most people know...i am muslim and in september i will have to start fasting for Ramadan....no eating or drinking sun up to sun down. So i need some real advice.... Am i able to do that while still dieting? First off dinner will be late ....like 9 or 10 at night....and that will be the biggest meal. Any ideas? Also i'll probably be fasting for like 3 months since i missed a few in the past due to pregnancy. ok so any advice??

rena | No help here. I've always felt that Ramadan was an unhealthy thing--I would be thristy as hell by sundown. I think it leads to dehydration. I have no experience doing this, but I wish you luck, dear. |

Rep Power: 23 | | I don't have any ideas either. I don't know how you would do it for three months especially. I have a hard time doing it for Yom Kippur and that's just 24 hours. I wouldn't think it would be healthy to exercise or go to the gym too much during this time.
I hope someone has some good advice for you! |

Rep Power: 8 | | | yea so im not planning on exercising much during this time(exept during menses cause fasting isnt required then). Well thanx for all the help girls....lolol Funny thing it really is as bad as it seems as long as you just lay around as much as possible and wake up before the sun to eat.

Rep Power: 10 | | Depending on what Ramadan really means to you, you could still eat normally while following the rules (if youre crazy enough, just reverse your sleep pattern, or wake up during the night for a middle of the night meal). If you are really intent on observing it for its real purpose, it really won't hurt you much to only eat two meals a day, as long as you can keep your hunger in check and not blow your calorie balance. One month of two meals a day (one right before you sleep and another as soon as you wake up) really shouldn't set you back as long as you try to split the calories up between the meals and make sure you aren't over (or under) doing it calorie wise. Now, should you decide to do it for three months straight... no guarentees on that one that's for sure.
If I remember right, part of the point of Ramadan is the fasting as a form of self-sacrifice or something? Pardon my ignorance if I am incorrect, but it seems like in order to properly observe this event, you are required to put your own health at risk. As if that is specifically the point... so i guess trying to find ways around it is quite contradictory to the reason for doing it in the first place...?
well, to each their own as the saying goes. We do what we do because it is what we "know", and as such, I wish you the best of luck in getting through this period in a manner that most meets your physical and spiritual beliefs. |

Rep Power: 8 | | | THANKS FOR THE ADVICE.
Ramadhan is about focusing on the events of that month...the Holy Quran being sent down to the Prophet Mohammed. IT is however not meant to hurt you...and in fact if medically it isnt safe...you arent required to do it. Its also not just about the food but also no smoking, swearing, you should be patient and kind...its just a month to focus on being closer to God.
I unfortunately cannot stay up all night and sleep all day(wish i could but with 2 kids...not gonna happen) however that is what many people do.
Well ill let you all know how it goes |
