Rep Power: 0 | | 80lbs in 6 months I have decided to return to the military in January. I need to weigh 205lbs or below 24% ody fat to enlist. I was 312lbs as of Wednesday 6/11/08. As of today 6/17/08 I am 300.5. I am using the tredmill daily. I am a 28 year old male. I keep my heart rate at 150ppm. This means about 3.9 mph with a 0 to a .5% incline. I drink 1 1/4g of water a day. I eat fruit, vegtables, yogurt, and skinless/bonessless baked chicken. I have a lifting schedule
day 1 = back/biceps
day 2 = shoulders/triceps
day 3 = chest
day 4 = legs
day 5 = just run
day 6 = start again
What do you all think about this? Is this goal uptanable with in the time frame i have? anything you would add or change? |

Rep Power: 357933 | | | that's an awful lot to lose in a fairly short time frame - especially if you want to hold onto musclemass...
While I'm a big advocate of walking - I'm not sure it's going to help you long term in meeting the physical fitness requirements that the Army will make you do - Don't they make you run a mile in a certin time frame, do a certain amount of push ups, etc. - least that's what my reserve buddy has to do regularly.
I"d spend a lot of time reading the stickied threads i the exercise forum - you're weight work out needs some work i'd think... and I'm not sure you're eating enough...

Rep Power: 0 | | | the physical part of it is fine. I have been in before and know what is coming in terms of phyiscal requirements. I need thoughts and advise on weight loss. I wouldnt mind losing muscle mass. I am not a fan of bulk. I do 3.0miles daily on the tredmill at 3.9mph this is a 15:00mile. Thats a starting point and will work my way down to a fast mile.

Rep Power: 357933 | | spend some time with the stickied threads in nutrition, on topic and exercise -you'll get a ton of useful information...
and get an account at FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal -and keep track of your calories.. it's the number of calories consumed in a day that have the biggest impact on weight loss...

Rep Power: 180864 | | | How tall are you? That a lot of weight to lose. Like 13lbs a month. Not impossible but that will take a lot of work. Do you have to weigh in and do the physical trials at the same time? If you just have to weigh in you could "cut" the last 15-20 but if you have to do the physicals you will be zapped.

You could be in phenomenal shape @ 6"1 and still be 200lb+.

If you are over the weight requirement for your height, they test your BF% and you have to be within certain limits. U.S. Marines Recruit Weight Chart - Males
The above link talks about this in more detail.
To the OP, I'm a 20 year old male, standing 5'9 and currently weighing 182lbs. I've lost approximately 42 pounds in just about 3.5 months, so it's certainly possible. I just keep protein intake high so as to lose as little lean mass as possible. Then, once I've lost a sufficient amount of fat (eg no overhang on gut) then I'll start to eat over maintenance with much more protein than I'm consuming even now to build lean mass. I'm looking to enlist in the Marines in january, but unlike you this will be my first time in.

Rep Power: 65 | | | I lost 95 pounds in an 8 month period (from last June through February) so though it may seem unattainable to some, it is possible if you remain strict. I would have lost more, but I had a car accident and didn't do much for an entire month. Since February I've only lost 15 pounds, so it has drastically slowed down.. hopefully you will get there though. Good luck!

No it was called for. He/She was not trying to help. I am a serious, educated, responsible person and do not have time for lies or misleading information. I may have got my self out of shape but Im not a liar or inpersonating a nutritionist |

tell you what, what difference does it make. If you want to try to get down to 125 lbs do you need edco76's backing?
You came to a forum seeking advice. He may have given you incorrect- not sure since BF% is subjective to the person and not a blanket % per height/wieght- information and you insult him.
Where did he lie?

Rep Power: 0 | | | Body Fat... the only way to calculate body fat is to take measurements of the body in different areas, you can't tell by weight at all, period. I was an all state wrestler and they took this measurement often. I'm not going to pretend to know much more but losing 100 or so lbs in a short time isn't healthy, doesn't matter how you go about it. I would recommend going through with your routine however, if you feel like your body is telling you no then just stop. I know sounds stupid but when cutting weight for wrestling we often had to cut 30lbs in a months time and from personal experience it didn't feel to good at all. And worse comes to worse just put a lot of muscle on, it'll lower your body fat percentage to. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
