Rep Power: 0 | | | Dont seem to be losing the weight? Hello, I am a 23 year old male 5'7, not sure how much I weigh as I have no scales.
Basically for the last month Ive been on a diet to lose the weight Ive put on over the last 2 year. Basically I want my muscle definition back before I go on holiday at the end of the year and to feel good about walking round in just my shorts.
As I said the last month or so Ive been on diet and doing daily exercise, but for the last 2 weeks I haven't lost any weight at all (been measuring my waist every few days).
My diet consists of a small bowl of cereal for breakfast(shredded wheat) then a salad sandwich for lunch(on wholemeal bread w/ no butter) then another bowl of cereal when I get home from work.
Exercise wise I'm doing about 15 minutes of weights(6 different lifts) plus press ups and every other day some situps. I also walk for 20-25 minutes daily.
For the first 2 weeks I lost a lot of weight but now for the last 2 weeks I don't seem to have lost anything at all (based on my waist measurement).
What am I doing wrong? |

Rep Power: 8 | | From the information you gave it seems as though you are eating WAY too little. For example, where is the protein?!?! One can not be healthy on cereal alone.
Also, inches will come off slower than pounds on the scale, so don't get discouraged at the inches after two weeks, it takes time.
My opinion: completely re-evaluate your diet to include proper ratios of fat, protein, and carbs. Increase cardio to more than a walk and really get your heart going.
Good luck! |

ALl you are going to suceed in doing is reducing weight by reducing muscle mass, and still have fat on your body |

Rep Power: 0 | | Thanks for the advice dwwise83, the diet was originally to get me used to eating smaller portions which it has done, I just carried it on after the initial 2 weeks because of the amount of weight (inches from my waist) that I lost.
I did plan to swap my evening meal to whole grain rice/pasta with vegetables (which are currently sat in my cupboard) which I will do from now on.
Could the lack of protein be effect the weight loss? I really only have a basic understanding of these things. Also regarding fat and carbs, these are things I've been trying to avoid through fear of gaining weight rather than losing it.
Ill be honest I have no idea what I'm doing here as to planning a better diet. I was simply told by a friend to eat less carbs and fatty/sugary foods.
Thanks! |

Rep Power: 0 | | Thanks for the reply Wishes, you answered my question, losing muscle and not fat is really not what I want, I didn't realize I was going about this in such a wrong way. Glad I came here when I did!
Any advice on diet would be much appreciated, I rarely eat meat and mostly just tell people I'm vegetarian when they ask. I understand that there's a lot of protein in meats (please correct me if that's wrong), what can I supplement meat for to gain protein?
Thanks! |

Go to the nutrition section of this forum and start reading the stickies... there's a lot to learn on the subject! Health is much more than being 'thin' and a proper diet consists of protein, complex carbs, and yes - fat.
Take the time to educate yourself and you will DEFINITELY SUCCEED! Best of luck! |

Thanks! | You can find protein in eggs, and any dairy products. Also dont forget nuts, avocado i think also. But be aware Nuts and avo have a fair bit of fat (though its "good" fat, its still fat and ergo high in calories)
I eat a ton of eggs, only 60 cals each so ill have 4 scrambled most mornings as a great start to the day.
Read some of the sticky threads that are in the forum in various places, particularly the ones written by Steve (he knows more Guy specific stuff and is PT, owns a gym, is a God, etc) Quote:
