Thumbs up My Weight Loss Story

Hey! I had stumbled across another forum on a google search about a year ago and had posted my story and pictures over there and by much amazement it seemed to have motivated alot of people. Many people have e-mailed me asking for advice and I have gladly helped them over the years. I found that talking with other people who are trying to do the same really does help with a challenging but definatly rewarding goal such as losing weight.. I hope I can be of motivation to others on this site just as much as I had been on the other site and I hope I can recieve the same from all of you in my goals!

I used to be fairly overweight child and in a society where such a thing was laughed at and looked down upon.. I grew up with self image problems which made me very shy. I was never able to keep up with the other kids in phsyical activities as trivial as gym class or reccess. I would constantly be out of breath and would feel embaressed for even trying. In my teen years I started growing taller which was good considering I never even broke 5 feet untill i got to high school so I filled out better but my eating habits got horrid. I used to eat alot of fast food including chinese.. pizza.. candy.. the whole nine yards but in high school it got even worse. I would not only eat unhealthy lunch food at school (soda, pizza, chips) but everyday after school I would eat an entire value meal at a fast food (I could easily eat two big mac at age 12) restaurant and come home and eat a full dinner before I went to bed.. all of this with next to 0 physical activity.. Needless to say after a couple months of that routine I reached my peak.. I was only about 5'4 and weighed 200 lbs, I mainted that weight as my height increased.

It was about my senior year in High School when I decided to eat healthier and excersise more, I would try extreme dieting and excersizing on and off but I would lose motivation and give up after a week or two. I would see weight loss but I would gain it all back when I would eat like crap again. That is how it was all senior year and I actually did end up losing about 20 lbs in that whole ordeal but I felt that i could do much better.

I set a new year's resolution for myself in January of 2006 to lose weight. As soon as I got back to college from Winter break and I began eating much healthier and excersised at least 4-5 times per week for a straight 3 months. As odd as it may seem the only way I could eat healthy is if I ate extremely healthy during the week and ate junk food on the weekend (Not Fast Food). Then gradually I would cut back on the weekends and now I pretty much eat healthy 7 days a week and don't feel guilty if I sneak in an ice cream here and there. It sounds odd but it has worked for me and now I have minimal urges to splurge on fatty foods. So after about 3 months I felt much better cardio performance and dropped from a pant size 34 to a 30. After all this progress I took a week or so off from excersizing and then started back up with slightly more emphasis on muscle toning rather than pure cardio. I did this up untill the end of Summer 2006.

Since then I have been on an on and off gym routine although my diet has stayed fairly consistent. I had switched to a mostly vegetarian diet (still ate chicken and fish occasionally) eating veggies high in protein and fibre and also eating only whole grains (no white bread!), Eat lots of fruit instead of juice, Drink about 2 glasses of skim milk a day and lots of water (absolutley no soda!!) and as a rule I don't eat anything 2 hours before going to bed.

All of this may seem like alot of work but once you get into the routine and become more educated about nutriton and how your body and muscles work its actually not too time consuming, you feel great and best of all it's a lifetime routine.. People say to me "oh so ur on a diet" "or whats your diet secret".. I tell them its not a diet.. it is lifelong and I plan to live this way for years on end because it isnt an inconvienience at all!

Thanks for reading, here are some pics of my progress, I am now all done with losing weight and have concentrated on building muscle to achieve a goal weight of a lean 150lbs. Since it was birthday a couple days ago I have decided this is the year where I will have a 6 pack (abs not beer) at the beach for the first time in my life. I just hope I can stay motivated and stop slacking off as I have been the past year unfortunatley.

Above three pictures: January 2005 - 200lbs

Above two pictures: January 2006 - ~180lbs

Above picture: February 2006 - ~165 lbs

Above picture: March 2006 - ~155 lbs

Above picture: April 2006 - ~150lbs

Above picture: May 2006 - ~145lbs

Above picture: July 2006 - Present ~ 140lbs

So as I said before my goal now is to achieve 150lbs with approximatly 10% BF or less. I will post pics in the comming months as I notice changes. Thanks for reading and contact me for any questions.. I'm all ears!

Way to go dude. The abdominal muscle is no different than any other muscle. If you want it to pop put weight on it.

I literally hold a 45lb plate while I crunch.

Your story was a great read. Awesome job once again.

Very inspiring story and pics. I`ve lost almost 70lbs and am almost at my goal weight and now getting into toning phase but pics like yours show what someone can achieve with diet and exercise and willpower.

Wow! You look amazing!
Congrats!

I can totally relate to your story. Becoming overweight as adult is bad enough, but growing up overweight as a child can be out right torture. Kids can be so cruel.
