This is my first post. I'm stuck at 186. I have lost my motivation and am stuck. I have to get over this and keep losing. I wanted to post in hopes its gets me over my fear of others opinions :-)

Hey! I am having a similar situation. I am down 225 to 196 and I seem to be stuck as well!
Plus we both seem to have lost it in the same places!
We need to push through our funks!

Its so hard. I've been stuck here for about 3 months. I've been slacking big time and need to get with it. I'm only 5'1 so my ultimate goal is 120..I think. I know I look better and I feel a lot better. I've made it to this point before but just can't get past it.

Yeah I'm 5'4 and have been 170+ since I was uh... 15? Even when I did sports. So I know once I hit 175 it's going to be uphill from there!! I've been stuck at 196 now for almost 2 months I guess. =/

What kind of lifestyle changes have you made to initiate the weight loss? What triggered your desire for change?

Hello Kia, WoW, what a tremendous amount of work you've put in, it REALLY SHOWS!!! Big Time!

What do you think is holding you back? Why do you think you lost your motivation? What motivated you to start to lose & get on track to a different lifestyle change to begin with? What would you like to see yourself do differently?
I'm all ears.

Take Care for now.

I went to the doc in March of 09 and found out the I was at 227 and was pretty unhealthy. I have a four yr old and its not fair to her to have a mom that is slowly killing herself.
So I cut my portions in half and started walking everyday.
I don't want to hate what I see anymore.

I have no idea whats holding me back. I think some of my problem is now thats summers over i have to get into a new schedule. I'm having a hard time falling into my groove.
I'm trying to change a little at a time. First off..NO fast food, fact is theres no good to come of it. I also have slowly cut out a lot of the crap food and poor snacking.
I want to be successful and just be healthy, no matter how long it takes.

I walk 30 minutes a day. I take the same route, some days I get further than others. I have a back injury so I'm follow my docs orders on working out.

Congratulations on the great weightloss! It's really noticeable; you should be proud of yourself.

I've been on several plateaus before.. It's absolutely horrible to keep working hard and just nothing happens!
I found that it helped to eat around 2-300 calories more a day for a while and change ways of exercising. You walk alot; what about maybe trying to bike around in your town? It has also helped me break the plateau if I started eating more raw fruits and veggies. But even if you decide not to change anything, it'll still change. Plateaues can be waited out, but I'm with you on it; it's absolute horrible!

Good luck!

Nice work so far.

Plateaus can be triggered by a number of factors. One thing's for certain... cleaning up the diet by eliminating fast foods and making better choices overall can and will control calories and initiate weight loss. That said, for most, this will be short lived.

An idea might be signing up for fitday.com and purchasing a food scale. Get a feel for how many calories you're actually consuming. Most plateaus are caused b/c you're eating too much. Remember, you can overeat good foods.

It's also important to note that as you lose weight, you have to adjust your intake over time. What was once a deficit will eventually become maintenance as you become smaller. The smaller you are, the less energy is required to move around and maintain the various tissues, etc.

Also, on the exercise front... has your doc commented on what his/her progression plan is? You're not doomed to walking the same distance/intensity for life, right?

I don't really know. She said start with walking and build up. I really want to jog but I'm scared. Not so much for my back, but I've never run more than 30 seconds before LOL
