Rep Power: 0 | | | 90lbs down....still a ways to go though Yesterday I finally met one of my weight goals that I had been trying to achieve for a very long time. I am now officially under 200 pounds, a weight I haven't been at since middle school. I started at 289 three and a half years ago, and it has been slow going with some setbacks, but I finally feel like I am on the right track. I've lost over 20 pounds since September and finally have some hope about future weight loss. I know I am never going to be supermodel thin, but I want to be healthy and happy.
Here are some pics from various weights and the most recent one is from last night in my Halloween costume |

What techniques have you been using for your lifestyle change?
| As far as changing my lifestyle, it has been difficult and taken a long time. After my first year of college I was at my highest weight 289 and I went to see a nutritionist over the summer and ended up losing around 60 pounds by following the food plan she made for me, which was cutting out a lot of fat and sweets and averaged out to about 1500-1700 calories a day.
I returned to school the next year, and did pretty well, but eventually stopped following the food plan and over the next three years crept back up to 250ish. In January I decided enough was enough and I was gonna lose more weight but I didn't really know how to go about it the right way and cut my daily calorie intake to 1200 a day with 40 mins of cardio 4-6 days a week. I lost about 20-30 pounds or so in 2 months but was miserable, and ended up binging and purging almost every week. My eating just got completely out of control really fast and I would go for days eating barely anything and then eat tons of sweet. It just wasn't healthy at all. I went on like this for most of the summer (hiding food and sneaking snacks all the time) until I saw a poster at the gym for Food Addicts anonymous.
I went to a meeting and started the program, which cuts out all sugar and flour (even wheat flour) and has you measure every meal. It was hard at first, but everyone was so supportive, and it is a great network of people. I have been doing that for about 2 months and lost 23 pounds so far. I am still a little hesitant to embrace the FA program fully because it is very involved (you have to call a sponsor everyday, and go to 3 meetings a week, and have a "higher power" which I am not really into) but my food cravings have gotten a lot better and it is easier I haven't binged or purged in that time. I wouldn't recommend FA to everyone, because it is so involved and a huge lifestyle and mind change but I was so desperate and scared about my eating habits spiraling out of control so quickly that I had to do something (and therapy was too expensive lol jk). I feel a lot more in control of what I put into my body now and I feel a lot more at peace. It has only been two months though, but I am really hopeful that this is the right change for me. |
