Rep Power: 85 | | Hi
hickgurltx - you need to look after that leg. Maybe you should check with the doctor because you may need to rest it or do some special exercises.
A one and a half hour yoga class (where you lie on a mat and dont walk anywhere all the time) slows my steps down on a Tuesday.
At least the rain held off until the afternoon short walks and then it was just drizzle.
Reading for Tuesday 2nd October
30,570 steps, 11.33 miles

Rep Power: 85 | | | Hi
Stacy - while you rest that leg you can have half my steps.
We all have times when the universe gangs up on us - the big thing is to try not to comfort-eat.
Shanikachante - check if there is somewhere on your pedometer to enter your step-length. Mine has an automatic option (where it guesses based on gender and height) and manual (where you key it in). Mine also has a place where you can say if you want things in imperial units or metric. Yours may be using a default. Watch out for this as mine had a default based on my height of 26 inches stride - and I had to change it to 23.5 inches as it exaggerated what I had done.
If your pedometer is dealing in inches (as mine is) it basically takes the number of steps and multiplies by your step length. It then knows how many inches you have walked. It converts to miles by dividing by 63,360.
I check mine every so often by walking a distance that we have measured using the car tripometer and seeing how the mileage compares if you note the start and end readings.
A word of warning to new female pedometer users. As a larger lady - I found that if I was wearing one of my bigger less-supportive bras - basically my bust hung low and acted as a shock absorber - thus reducing my reading. It wasnt detecting all my steps. A more supportive bra fixed the problem straight away.
Wednesday was a good walking day. The things that I do to save talking to my mother-in-law on the phone......
Reading for Wednesday 3rd October
37,634 steps 13.95 miles
I walked so far I had to put a bandage under my right heel for this morning's long walk (which I am not long back from) - as I wouldnt be surprised if I get a blister. I can just feel it starting there. This happens to me all the time.

Rep Power: 85 | | Hi
You use 3lb weights Stacy - you strong woman. I take my 1kg (i.e. 2.2lb weights) on a walk round the block 3 times a day - feebly trying to encourage my arms to not go in for the loose skin look.
Do you know any good exercises for that?

Anyway my walking for Thursday was at more average levels.
Reading for Thursday 4th October

I am going out on my long walk in a little while - just waiting for everywhere to warm up a bit as it is still pretty cold out there. I think that the weather will be nicer if I wait and set out about 8.30 a.m.

Some I do w/weights:
I put on some upbeat music - stand in place with back strait - make legs go out a bit and slightly bend knees - {looks like yer fixin' ta squat}
*Hold that pose and do even curls with weights for each arm.
~~~~
Upbeat music: Have the same kind of pose except this time you will punch out w/weights while bending legs back to rear...
Hard to explain..
You rotate.. When I punch out with right arm ; my left leg bends w/foot toward my rear.. I go back n' forth as long as I can..
I also briskly walk while holding weights and make sure to swing my arms. |
Thanks for the weights info - I will try some of them tomorrow.
Rep Power: 85 | | | shanikachante - my pedometer gives instructions to basically take a set point and put your heel up to it. Then walk 10 steps and mark the point at the back of your heel and measure and divide by 10. This gives greater accuracy than just one step.
You can sanity check by
a/ measuring one step back of heel to back of heel (but front of toe to front of toe would work just as well).
b/ using the car tripometer to measure a distance that you walk regularly. I have a 6.3 mile walk that I do a lot. When you have it all set up - every now and again compare your start distance and end distance. It should come roughly similar to that calculated by the car.
I find for instance that my stride can change if I wear different shoes. I dont change these things all the time. It would be picky to reset your stride every time you change shoes. I recently however wore a hole through my favourite walking sandals and had to reset things again because I realised that things had changed.
Rep Power: 33 | | I've cooled down from walk...
ZuZu has picked a nice spot by fan and she's still tryin' ta cool off..lol
We walked to the park - went up 2 hills {took the long route} - made 1 lap around pond - back home..
As we were going down the hills to get back home, ZuZu thought it would be great fun to run...  OMG I know I looked so stupid as I was gaspin' for air {bc of course I'm still very out of shape joggin' down this hill}
..I can only imagine what people were sayin'/thinkin' as they drove by..  Oh well, who cares right?!
