Couch Potato to Marathon Athlete

I have been trying to work on myself for a while now, and a goal I have is to run the 2011 Boston Marathon. It is going to be a long time training for me, and I was curious whether anyone would like to join me in a challenge.

I am challenging myself to train from start to finish and participate in the 2010 Boston Marathon. No one who joins has to sign up for a marathon, but maybe a 5K race, half marathon, etc, or people who just want to get running into their routines.

I know I will need help and motivation to stay with this. So If you want to join, just post saying that you want to start running (or continue), what your goal is, and how you want to do it. There is no set start date, seeing as this is hugely for support. Set your own dates.

I am obviously joining, lol.

I am training for a full marathon run, with some races in the middle of my training probably. And of course I will have to take the test to qualify.I want to run in 2010, but it depends where I am when the time comes to qualify. (I can't seem to find a list of qualifying races I can attend), and if 2010 can't happen, it will in 2011.

And I am going to start the C25K plan, and then find a program that fits my needs to train for a full marathon. I found something here: Mileage Build-Up to start me up after the C25K.

If anyone stumbles across a list of qualifying races for the Boston Marathon... could you let me know?

Tomorrow I am starting my week 2 of C25k, WEEK 1 is a bit easy for me, so I'm happy to look up for maybe a bit of a challenge. The days I will be doing this program are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I'm really looking forward to it.

Well I am on a similar quest but mine involves swimming and biking too. I just did my first sprint triathlon 3 weeks ago and it was awesome. It took me almost an entire year to get fit enough to do something like that. Now I am thinking I would like to do another sprint tri this year and some 5k or 10k runs. Next year maybe an olympic length triathlon and maybe a half marathon at some point. Don't you have to qualify for the Boston Marathon? Have you ever done one before? Just curious.

Never done a full marathon. i've done a couple of 5Ks in my life. And yeah, you do have to qualify.

Me too!

Hi,

You've probably discovered this by now, but at this link: Boston Athletic Association
you can find a list of US, Canadian, and International races that are qualifiers for the Boston Marathon.

Both my brother and I are training to qualify for the Boston Marathon. He's ahead of me by a year or so though. I started training in May and will be running my first 1/2 marathon in September. My brother was supposed to run his first full in July but had to bow out due to tendinitis. We're both hoping to run our first full marathon together in the Spring. He might hit a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon and then enter in the 2011, I'm hoping to do it by 2012.

Good luck to you on your way to Boston!
