Having come to a decision to stop 'going for a walk' and instead challenge myself to better my distance/endurance/speed, I thought I'd start this for anyone else who wants to join.
I'm going to start using RunningMap to track distance.
Yesterday, I walked 1.5 km (twice). Not sure how long it took, but it was around 30-40 minutes. I'm going to time it for sure today, and make it 3 times around the route.
well it's what i've been doing for the past year, so might as well join the club
my weekend walking are all about building up endurance and stamina, and callouses for my marathon walk in August... but my weeknight walks, home from work, are all about ego and going for speed...
My current walk home from work is about 5 miles, and it's taking me about an 85 minutes which is about a 17 minute mile... I know I can walk a 15 minute mile so that's what I'm shooting for on a consistant basis...
Even though I'm just starting out, I'm in. According to the link (thanks Dari!) my route is just short of 3 miles. It takes me roughly an hour to do it so I will be working on speed first, then I'll start increasing the distance.
Today is Monday, a new week. I ate way too much for supper last night, plus too much dessert. I'm going to work it off today! My route that I've planned out is about 4.8 km or 3 miles. I'm going to time myself, then see if I can shave off some time by next Monday.
the 18 miles took about 6 1/2 hours the 15 miles took about 5 hours - we weren't setting any speed records - those distances were built up over time...
I've come to the conclusion that the thing i hate the most about walking -- is trying to get around the packs ofpeople on the sidewalk - why do people insist on walking 4 people across at a snails pace - taking over the entire sidewal - come on people -step it up a little - or get out of the way -and excuse me doesn't seem to register... Sidewalk slam dancing anyone
Okay I'm in this club. I have barley started, as I am new! I have much to lose,!!
I started walking last monday so I have done it for 6 days nows, I go everyday My distance shows, about a mile and a half! You guys put me to shame!! I guess I need to walk it twice or something! lol.
I walk thats distance in about 30 minutes! tell me is that good or bad?? I have no idea what I should be doing? I just walk fast enough to keep my heart rate up and I also incorperate a light run for a short distance during my walks!
So any opinions would be great on this or tips that can help me burn more calories!
that comes out to a 20 minute mile which is an awesome time... be proud of that... every week try to go a little longer or a little farther and you will see your waistline shrink...
there are a lot of days I don't hit a 20 minute mile... so really be proud of that
Thanks!!! Today i went a little further, My right rib area was hurting lol
I am just mostly proud of myself for getting out and doing it regardless of time and distance! Thanks for the support
i'm totally in for this... I need to get my butt out of bed to walk in the mornings however - so maybe this will give me the motivation that I need! I've been doing about 3 miles in 50 minutes... but recently I've been doing a shorter loop (2.25 miles) in about 30-35 minutes... i need to build it up and go farther and faster! tonight i'll try to get out once its cooler
