Rep Power: 0 | | I didn't weigh myself for a few days (hard to resist) but when I got on the scale I weighed 327.2, reweighed myself about 5 times to be sure. I weighed 334 5 days ago, I am hopeful that its not all water weight since 7 pounds in 5 days seems a little too fast of a weight loss to be true. Though if I look at the calories I burn and intake it seems possible I guess but according to my doctor 2,000 calories a day for my weight should be safe when you consider how unhealthy the weight is. According to fitday my average daily caloric intake for the last 5 days has been 2,039 (average) and I supposedly burn 5,000+ calories a day with activity.
Hopefully it's not mostly water or muscle weight and it really was 6-7 pounds of fat. |

it's very nice to read everyones encouraging stories and know that there's a club for all sizes...finally, somewhere where i actually feel accepted!
i'm 146kg (320pounds) and 5feet in height, i have been health eating for 2 months now and have now been at my gym for 4 weeks doing a rigorous exercise programme. i was weighed at the gym on week 1 and will be weighed again on week 6....(i guess i'll have weigh in's every 6 weeks). My current gym programme consists of 45min treadmill then some weights and finished with another 45mins of the treadmill (or an aerobics class which is much more interesting). currently i'm doing this about 4 days a week, but hoping i can push it up to 5. nutrition wise i've been eating right for about 2 months, but last week went back to my old ways (which i feel HORRIBLE about), but cleaned up my act yesterday and back on proper eating.
i don't own a weighing scale, haven't owned one in like 2 years because i was too afraid to know how much i weighed (since i was doing zero exercise and eating everything in sight), and the one time i got courage to step on one at a friends house, it was one of those weighing scales that can't weigh beyond 130kgs and i knew i definitely weighed more than that. i'm seriously considering buying one so that i can be doing a weekly weigh in, the only thing that stops me is that I KNOW i'd be OBSESSED with weighing myself like 3 times a day...and this might drag me down...but still seriously considering it.
looking forward to taking this journey with all of you...we can do this!

Rep Power: 0 | | If you are going to obsess like me *sigh* you should remember that you gain 3-5 pounds in weight during the day. (food and water in stomache, ect) Though I weigh myself usually 4 times a day I'm not saddened if i wake up at 327 and go to bed at 331. Just recently I woke up weighing 331 and when I went to bed I was 337. I was wondering how much of it was going to stick with me when I woke up. But when I woke up I was 329. Also note that if you drink any alcohol your weight will go up 10 pounds for a couple days then go back down. From my understanding the alcohol causes you to retain water. I learned that from experience had about 8 light beers one day woke up 10 pounds heavier so I googled it lol. |

Rep Power: 13 | | LOL! i thought back in the day when i owned a weighing scale i was obsessed with it...but i see you definitely beat me there
seriously though, thanks for the advice, i'll definitely keep it in mind when i decide to buy a scale, at least since i now know about the 3-5 pound fluctuation in weight during the day, i'll probably be weighing myself at the same time everyday...it'll probably be mornings since i'll be lighter then Quote:

Rep Power: 0 | | For my official weight I go with what I weigh in the morning before I eat or drink anything. I record it on fitday if you want to see a graph for your weight and such its useful as well as keeping track of calories. I always use the site when I'm serious about losing weight but if I fall off my diet I tend to drift away from the site lol.
*add* hopefully i'm fine posting about it here, mainly just a suggestion about useful tools to help with weight loss. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | my story Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself most of my life i ahve been overweight since about 8th grade. I really noticed it when I was out of college and living alone and the stuff I would eat was just ridiculus at one point I was 305 this is when i put my foot down. Immediatly I changed everythingI got a membership at a gym and started working out everday.. and eating a lot less I was feelin great for about a month and half. until I changed jobs.
Changing Jobs changed my schedule changing schedules I was tired for the first few weeks because i went from a graveyard shift to a 9 to 5 I begin eating fast food and not working out again for the next two years. finally after a vacation to hawaii and feeling self consious about taking off my shirt I decided once again to loose weight when i get back. when started this time I weighed in at 289 blah 289 wow I never looked that big I am 6'1 and have a big frame so I never looked over 260... well I begin this time with diet only I figured gradual steps would be better.
After about few months and 2 -3 month and a few slips I was doing well I think the lowest I was at 250/249lbs. well yet another change happened in my life I had a move and got this steady girl friend which I was happy.. well I fell back in the old routines drinking beer and eating fast food.. yes I love fast food easy cheap and good ....
After girlfriend went kinda crazy.. I decided to get back on track when I started this time I weighed in starting at 256 I am still currently on this diet for about 3 weeks now and i am not stopping yes I had a few slip ups.. what can I say I love beer ... but after the weekends I seem to get right back on track today I weighed at my lowest of low at 239. yes I am almost to my first goal of 230 .. it's a tough road but I don't plan on taking another exit... |

Rep Power: 13 | | i posted this in my diary but since no one ever reads that, felt the need to vent it out here...because i'm just feeling down and out and need to know that others go through this too.
wow, i feel like sh*t today. first of all, i've had a killer headache all day that wasn't being sorted out by painkillers, so wasn't even going to go to the gym, but the only reason i did was because i had an appointment with the trainer (they are scheduled once a week just to make sure everything's going ok), so i was like, you know what? i don't think i can wait another 3 weeks before i find out my weight...so can i check my weight today? so he was like sure! so i step on the weighing scale but it kept bringing an error, so i tried a second scale and "ERROR", a third scale then showed that i weigh 150.1kgs (330 pounds) then went on "ERROR", at this point my eagerly awaited moment of knowing how much weighed i'd lost had QUICKLY turned into a NIGHTMARE, my eyes started to well up i almost couldn't believe it, then the trainer was like no lets try a different one, the only one left was the calibrated scale and guess what? it only goes to 150 and thats where the pointer had shot up too, infact it probably wanted to go higher but couldn't because of the limit, so he was like he thinks it means i''m at 150.1kgs (as the other scale had said) but he said he shouldn't think so because he's seen how hard i've been working. he then added that the other weighing scales apart from the one that showed 150.1kgs only go upto 150kgs so that could be the reason why they are giving an error. he then started trying to say stuff to encourage me but i couldn't hear a thing, my eyes had welled up, i just wanted to get the hell out of there, i didn't cry but I JUST FELT LIKE SH*T! i wanted to scream WTF is going on?
i'm now telling myself that i'm building muscle which is why i have the increase, because there's NO WAY it's because of my exercise or nutrition. I've been busting my a$$ exercising 4 times a week for like 2.5hours everyday. And have eaten properly for 2months apart from last week when i reverted to my old ways...but i know there's NO WAY IN HELL that one week of eating could take me back to square 1...or should i say square zero...i mean my weigh-in just four weeks ago put me at 146kgs (320pounds) so apparently the last 4 weeks i've gained 4kgs (10pounds) that's bleeding ridiculous! so i'm telling myself it's muscle.
after i found out my weight, coupled with my headache i was so out of it i just did 45min on the treadmill at a really slow pace the entire time which i never do, and i just kept counting down the minutes like when will this end...after that i was like the hell with this, i'm going home.
i've never felt so down and out since i started my new beginning....but today, again i say it, I JUST FEEL LIKE SH*T!
this is also probably the reason why i shouldn't buy myself a weighing scale...if i'd been weighing myself everyday and was seeing a steady increase in weight i'd have given up a long time ago. so for now, i'll wait another 3 weeks to see if i loose anything. this is effing ridiculous, i just want to go make dinner, have an early night and cry myself to sleep. tomorrow is another day...a new day. |

Rep Power: 6 | | No offense, but I want out of this club!! I joined this forum in January. I was so pumped up - I joined the gym and was working with a personal trainer... This lasted for 3 weeks, and then my personal trainer quit. That really isn't why I stopped going to the gym, but I used it as an excuse! For 8 weeks I returned to my gluttonous lifestyle, and when I decided to step on a scale last week, I was back up to 320 pounds.
I'm currently pumped up again. I'm down to 311, back in the gym, and watching what I eat. I just wish I could STAY pumped up. If I felt this way and STAYED this way back in January, I would definitely be out of the 300's.
I guess it's true what they say, the 2976528659872436287th time's a charm. |

Rep Power: 46 | | cherrygarcia, have you had your thyroid checked? You're right that you should be losing weight and I can see why you're so frustrated. I know you're supposed to blame yourself and everything (according to some, anyway), but its always possible that there is a medical issue which is preventing you from losing weight. Do you figure out how many calories you usually have, with scale/measuring cups? I expect you do.. In the meantime, the exercise is helping you even if you're not noticing it on the scales so keep up the excellent work! |

Rep Power: 13 | | thanks for the kind words blancita. after having a long serious thinking session, i've decided to give it another 3 weeks (till my next weigh in) to see if i've added or lost weight. if after the 3 weeks i've added weight then i'm definitely going to see a doctor to get my thyroid checked. Rep Power: 0 | | I very much doubt you gained it all back in a week. Remember for one pound you would have to consume 3,500 more calories than you burn. Going by your weight and a educated guess I would asy you burn atleast 3,000 calories, more if you are active. Basically that would be something around 6,500 calories for one pound.
While working out you will gain muscle and that will make your weight seem like its dropping slower in the long run muscle actually helps burn calories even if your just sitting there watching TV so are quite useful.
Basically I am saying I am sure there is a reasonable explanation for your weight gain since I doubt when you were off your diet for a week you ate that much. Also even if you did gain some weight back as long as you continue to exercise and work out weight loss will get easier since the more you run the easier it gets the longer you can go the more calories you burn. I would also like to point out going slower for extended periods of time will burn more calories than working out hard for a bit after 30 or so minuts (not 100% sure on the amount of time) your body will start burning your fat cells instead of carbs and sugar.
My football coaches taught me about how to lose weight and one was the health teacher so I think the information I gave should be pretty accurate. |

Rep Power: 13 | | thanks dave for the info, i still feel like i got sucker punched yesterday, like the wind got knocked right out of me. i've also decided i will buy my own weighing scale, i'm actually giving the gym one big minus on the whole weighing scale issue, i was actually considering writing a letter to the management to tell them they need to invest in proper weighing scales that can handle larger sizes instead of those cheap ones they have....but on second thought figured it's not worth it, i'll just by my own.
now i need some help on here...i was wondering around how much you guys spent on your weighing scales? i'm checking some online right now and my pocket is telling me to go for the cheapest but my mind is telling me otherwise. some help would be appreciated, thanks. Quote:

Rep Power: 0 | | | I think mine was about 40dollars but you can get one for as low as 20 that can hold people in our 300s. I got mine at Wal-mart since I work there and get the 10% discount, lol. |

Rep Power: 13 | | | and the week just keeps getting crappier hello 300+ club,
i just wanted to say that you'll be seeing alot more of me than i thought. my week just keeps getting worse. to give a very summarised version, i've just found out that my starting weight was not 146kgs (320pounds) because those are completely cheap rubbish weighing scales they have at the gym.
i just bought myself a good quality high capacity weighing scale and have just found myself weighing in at 157.7kgs (347pounds). It all makes sense now because i was almost certain that i didn't weigh 146kgs to begin with but didn't think anything of it at the time since i assumed the gym had invested in a good scale...which was not the case.
I feel really bad because now i know that had the gym scale given me a correct initial reading, i'd have known how much i'd lost (because i'd been working so hard at it), but now not only do i have to start at the beginning, but have to mentally tell myself not to be bogged down by the fact that i just found out i weigh 11kgs more than i thought i did which takes me further away from my goal.
Now i have to adjust my ticker | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
