Try and look at some of the positive points about being a big person and just take it day by day. Good points are that we don't have to cut our calories down to 800 calories to lose that last five pounds. I think you said you were at 365 so you can cut your calories back to like 2000 calories a day and still have good results. Another one is when you do work out you burn alot more calories than someone that weighs alot less.
All I did was watch what eat and move more. I have had good results until I had alot of personal stuff going on and gained 40 pounds back but hey thats life. All we can do is take it one day at a time and keep going.
I'm 5'3" and most of 350 lbs. (I'm Canadian and it doesn't sound any better in kilograms!) I am so determined to live and I just won't if I don't get this turned around. I just mostly gained 5 - 10 lbs. a year for 20 yrs. and here I am. I am almost unable to walk, so getting exercise is a real challenge. But I see a dietician next week (long wait list) and a physio to help set up a program.
I really belive that we can do this if we support each other through the rough times and the ups and downs of life. You are not alone in your struggle and there's always strength in community.
Wish me luck as I do you! Heather
Hey heather welcome. I had a personal trainer many years ago and the first thing they told me is we need to just go jogging. I was dude i'm over 400 pounds, do you have any idea what that will do to my knees? Ever since then I have hated personal trainers. I shouldn't I'm sure there are some great ones out there. I just seem to attract the ones that got their qualifications from mail order lol. I think you said you were having trouble walking so I'm sure they will start you out on sit down exercises with a stretch band or something like that. I think the biggest key is going to be changing what you eat, how much you eat, and when you eat. It's not easy it takes some doing and at times I give in and have some candy or a slice of cake and just do my best to offset the calories the next day or simply call it a cheat day and stick to my diet harder than ever. Most of us have gotten pretty good a watching calories and points and such so if you need any ideas on menu just give out a shout. One thing you can do is list your food you eat everyday and that will show you how much you are taking in and help you to see how many starches and sugar you are taking in......
I feel your pain Jeremy, I have been getting up and doing the elipticle, then weights, splitting up my weights to 4 days a week, 1. Arms, 2.Triceps & Chest, 3. Deltoids, 4.Back & Shoulders. By that time the baby is up and I need to walk her 5 houses down to the babysitter, I started going the opposite way so its a nice little 1/2 mile around the block walk now. By the time I get to work the pain sets it, good pain though!!!!
My boss, is really into health and body building, he gave me that work out. I do not have the ability to do leg workouts with my current equipment so I just use walking and elepticle for that.
I've been jogging on the treadmill at my gym about 12-15 miles per week. On Monday I decided to give the dreaded 'Gauntlet' a try. It's a stairmaster on steroids. I watch these 100 lb women on it and think to myself, "eh, that aint so bad, I can do that". LOL, oh how sadly mistaken I was. I lasted all of 3 minutes and 41 seconds before throwing in the towel. But by mixing up your cardio you can keep your workout routine fresh and have it be beneficial too. I'm not done with 'The Gauntlet', I'll get back on and shot for 5 minutes....lol.
ILTodd, sounds like another machine created by the devil I have a stair machine at home, I like it but it doesn't like me, I can just last a couple of minutes but, thats better than not doing it all. Every little bit helps. I even started parking my car on the opposite side of my job so I had to walk further, we have 4, two story buildings, a parking garage and a HUGE parking lot, so even that has helped a little.
