I'm 5'3"...I guess I'm the shortest of the pack, as usual. I have a very small frame though, so people normally underestimate my weight and are shocked if they find out how much I weigh. I may not look my weight but boyyyyy do I feel it!! I set my goal weight at 135, but the doctor recommends 115. At 200 lbs I fit into size 11/12 and can squeeze into 9/10 (with a shoehorn, oil and duct tape) so i am a little afraid of what 115 will look like on me. OMG would I be a size 0?!?! But who knows, maybe when I get to 135, I'll want to be 115.
Come up with our own exercise plans...how cool . The program that I am doing has some exercises it recommends to tone certain areas, maybe I could crack them out and share what the techniques and repetitions are with you. It involves one of those rubber stretching resistance things (resistance bands ). The way they recommend using the resistance bands frightens me a bit so I have never done it, but I think you can do them at the gym on the proper equipment too. I have a gym at work and one at the clubhouse, but they both have limited equipment and regular machine hogs
Because of my body type, I cannot have so much red meat...so mostly i eat chicken and potatoes (with salad or vegetables for lunch and dinner), oatmeal egg whites and fruit in the morning and an occasional snack of grapes or something if i am craving something sweet, which normally happens to me everyday in the late afternoon....I wonder why What's been working for you?
I'm excited about this thread too lol and am sooo looking forward to seeing everyones success!!
Thanks for checking in Heather Computer problems eh, that sux. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon and you can surf and post your heart out!!
No problem KDel lol..I love your posts they are always so short and sweet Have a great day as well

I am new here also...I am about 1/2 way through my journey, which I started last January. I started at 264 and as we speak am down to 204. I sometimes get the sense that when I get to 200 it may feel a little like starting over as it took a year to get out of the 200's and probably will take another year to get to my goal weight of 150. That's ok, though, I am up for the challenge!
Good luck to everone, things like this are always easier when you have people to lean on...

Rep Power: 0 | | | Just what I needed Hello all! I have been over 200 since my 3rd child was born (she is now 17!). Through a divorce, I put on about 30 lbs and started the new year at about 235 (at 5'7"). Now I am determined to live a healthier lifestyle. I looked into surgery (lapband), but decided that I needed to make choices to change my own life.
I have been following a lower carb plan since the 1st of the year and had dropped 10 lbs, until about 3 days ago. I haven't cheated even once, yet my weight was climbing a couple pounds a day. VERY frustrating!!!!
So today I was feeling defeated and then I found this post. Thank you all for being open and so encouraging. Wish I would have found this before I snuck into the goldfish crackers.....
Ginger/Pink/Clouds.....you rock!

Rep Power: 3939 | | Hi Ali.smedley! So glad you could join us I totally agree with you that getting out of the 200 lb range is like a new beginning. I am not there yet or even close, but I'll be so happy when it happens!! And hey, I don't think we can resist but to feel different, the 100's range is Onederland after all I am like soooo excited that you are a mere 5 pounds away from being out of the 200's. We can throw our first official .... ONEderland thread party
What a way to start the new year!!! You've come a long way my friend!! And your goal of 150 is sooo do-able. I am hoping to get out of the 200's this year, 75lbs to go and I think I can do it to...we both can!! We all can...and we will
Hi Summerbaby! Can you please give me a moment whilst I retrieve my eyes from the floor...your youngest is SEVENTEEN!!! OMG If that avatar is your picture...my stars you are radiant!! And you think I rock? I am merely strumming one string on an acoustic guitar compared to you (Thanks for saying I rock by the way, it's one of my favorite compliments ) 10 pounds from the beginning of the year is totally cool. I think the weight gain is one of two things, 1) TOM is coming for a visit or 2) water retention. It could be that you either increased your sodium intake or decreased your water intake. If you lower your sodium and increase your water intake, those pounds will come off like nothing! I'm not a certified expert on weight loss, but believe me I am a master when it comes to scale addiction and weight manipulation But I'm being good this year o:-) I loooove goldfish crackers by the way, especially the pizza ones...I think I'll let that be my cheat food next weekend (just kidding)
Well everybody I am planning on starting exercise this week, so I started stretching today. I absolutely love stretching!! I have never done yoga before, but I'm thinking about trying it. Has anyone else ever tried it? If so, can you tell me what it's like? I mean, do you have to focus on the concept of the rising sun and the oneness of the earth's wind with your ankle behind your neck or do you just count while in pain like regular stretching? I have seen those oxygen exercise things too, where stretching is combined with breathing techniques to burn fat. I wonder if it really works...

Rep Power: 0 | | | hello everyone! Its great finding a place where you can actually talk to people who know how you're feeling. I'm 22 so all my friends are thin and they can't really relate to how I'm feeling. I started out at 227 and I'm currently at 217! I started working out on the 4th of this month and eating healthy which eventually turned into a vegan diet. So far I love it and I feel great!
PinkClouds, I'm 5'3 too! haha you're not the only short one in the bunch.

Rep Power: 3939 | | Hiii Cameraobscura Welcome to the hottest thread on the block
Congratulations on your weight loss!!
I know what you mean about having a place to relate to others. I am the fattest one in my family on both sides I think...well I have an aunt (my uncle's X wife) who is much fatter than me, but I do not see her often. Come to think of it, I miss her a bit LOL she is so cool and so much fun!!
The vegan lifestyle rox!! When i was a teenager I tried the atkins diet for two days and could not eat meat for 5 years after that lol. In fact, it was a gradual progression to vegan...first i was vegetarian then I stopped eating fish, then eggs, then I got tired of beans and I hated protein shakes...then I started to have problems, so I started to eat chicken again. Moral of the story? There is none I guess. Just make sure you are getting all of what you need, I approached it from an uneducated angle and suffered the consequences. I am planning on being vegetarian again after I reach my goals, I think its the perfect maintenance plan...for me anyways. When I was vegetarian I stayed the same exact weight for years.
Sooo cool we are the same height and you are extremely near to being out of the 200's !! I am very happy you joined us!!

Rep Power: 0 | | | Ginger, I took yoga for a while and absolutely loved it. It was a beginner class setting, so I wasn't the only one there learning. It was a great workout too, I would be sweating like crazy by the end of class. It built strengthy, flexibility and just made me feel great all over! You should give it a try. Not easy at first, but I found within a couple of weeks I could keep right up with the rest of the class.
HAHA, YES, that is my picture and you are way too kind. I have 3 kids, 17 is my youngest. The others are 19 and 21.......and I look every day my 44 years!
Funny, after I snuck the goldfish crackers, about a half hour later I was doubled over with stomach cramps. I mean painful. I spent all afternoon on the sofa, hurting. Not sure, but I think my body was shocked at the carbs and fat. I hadn't really eaten any carbs since the first of the month. whew, it was no fun.
Glad I found you guys!

Rep Power: 0 | | | I thought it would be nice to hear where everyone is from.
Me....from the beautiful state of Oregon, USA
and one other note to the Yoga question, No, it wasn't all about the spiritual sun/earth kind of stuff. She would make reference, but the class I took was much more focused on fitness. There are several kinds of yoga, just look around until you find the class that fits you best.
Looking forward to my own ONEderland party. Keep it up everyone!

Rep Power: 1318 | | Wow! Other people who 'get it'. I started out at 279, I am now at 216. My first big goal is 185 and then I will set another goal after that. I think I am looking at a 'final weight' of 135. One step at a time though.
I truly do love this though. I belong to other forums and we have threads about exercise and weight loss, but it kind of irks me sometimes when these tiny girls post on there that they are trying to lose 5-10 lbs!
Here I am working my butt off to lose 100 lbs and they are freaking out about losing 10 lbs. I'm sorry, but it drives me crazy. Maybe I found someplace where I belong, at least where weight loss is concerned.

Rep Power: 0 | | | welcome Tabbi. Wow, well done! My initial goal is 180 by August, so I understand your setting those in-betweens.
Agreed, I saw some posts where girls are trying to go from 120-112 and I think WTF!
This morning my own 17 year old daughter said to me.....I don't think I will ever diet in my life. I hope that is true. I hope she has learned healthy life habits growing up and never thinks she needs to be 112! She is a gorgeous size 8, curvy and happy.
Keep up the good work. What kind of plan have you been on? Well done so far!

Rep Power: 85555 | | Pink clouds, thanks for the great welcome...reading everyone's posts has been a great distraction for what has been a boring day at work.
Congrats to everyone who has lost weight or has committed to losing weight!!! It is a huge thing to commit to making a change in your life and sticking to it...
I hope that when I reach Onederland that I can still hang w/you guys, this seems like a great place to be It is a huge thing to try to lose anywhere in the neighborhood of 100 pounds and support is definitely a crucial thing.
So for everyone who has created an interim goal (mine being getting below 200) are you planning on rewarding yourself? What are you going to do for yourselves at the end?
I have an idea of what my end reward may be but I am struggling w/what my interim goal will be...

Rep Power: 0 | | Just a little advice to all the ladies here, don't weight yourself when you start your period, you'll just get sad haha.
I'm from Phoenix, Arizona but I'm currently in Tucson for college. Its a little chilly here lately but it'll start warming up and I'll be much happier when its swimming weather and I'm not such a fatty.
My mini goal for myself is to get to 180... where I was in about a year and a half ago. I want to be able to get into these jeans I bought that are purposely 2 sizes too small. Just gotta lose slowly so your skin has time to change with your body! I get anxious and workout alot and then remember losing weight fast is bad. Anyone else have problems like that?

Rep Power: 1318 | | Thanks! Well, to be honest I started out on this because I was prescribed a migraine medication that had a possible side effect of appetite suppression. I decided that if that was a possible side effect that I was going to get off my bottom and meet it half way. So I starting walking...a lot.
The medication did indeed suppress my appetite so that definitely helped. At some point I think my body just kind of took over. It got to the point where I ate so much less that I just couldn't eat very much period.
Honestly, I don't believe in 'diets' for myself. I know I won't stick to it and I would be too tempted to 'cheat' so I eat smaller portions and allow myself indulgences now and then. For example, over the holidays, I still allowed myself to have some of the 'goodies' that are all over the place at that time of the year, but I just had a lot less than I normally would have. I continued to work out as well. I lost 6 pounds over the holidays. That was a miracle for me.
So short story super long... I do eat healthier than I used to and in smaller portions, but also eat the occasional junk food or treat, I just do so in moderation. And I'm amazed at how well I'm able to limit myself. I felt it was best for me to make a lifestyle change rather than going on a diet. I also exercise almost everyday. Quote:
