Help With The Afternoon Munchies

Sometimes I get the afternoon munchies so bad, today it was the worse. I ate plenty of food today. Woke up and had scrambled eggs with a piece of wheat toast, got to work and had plain yogurt with peaches and a chai tea latte, then lunch I had tuna with cucumber and I drank about 50 ounces of water throughout the day. As you can see, I should not be hungry but it seems to be asorbing my mental thoughts today. I've lost over 50 pounds in the last year and I am still losing 1/2 to 1 pound a week. I just wanted to see if anyone had any tips on what they do in the afternoon when they want to eat everything in site and what kinds of snacks do you find help curb this problem. On the weekends I don't want to snack at all but during the week, you put me behind a desk and sometimes that's all I want to do. I also feel like this morning I ate at home, which I rarely ever do, and it made me hungrier, does that even make any sense!!!

rough estimate has you about 500 calories after lunch.. that's pretty low.... no wonder you're hungry.

A chai tea latte might have more calories than you want to waste on a beverage...

how are you tracking your calories?

Motivation is not something you find or lose, have or don't have. It is the product of how you see yourself in the world: active or passive, effective or ineffective, powerful or victimized, normal or pathological.

I've been doing Weight Watchers (flex points) and I love it. I allow myself the chai because it is how I get my dairy each day plus I am just careful with my points throughout the day. I love WW because I don't even feel like I am on a diet and the weight is coming off great. The irony of yesterday was as soon as I left the office I felt fine and wasn't even hungry when I got home! I think it is all in my head!! I started this morning off with more protein and grains so hopefully that will be more filling. It always seems to be the mornings I eat eggs and toast that I am more hungry. Like I said above though, it's probably all in my head LOL

I think you've hit the nail on the head.
Sometimes when I think I would love to binge something will happen to take my focus off the food. The phone will ring or I'll stop and do something on the way to the kitchen and get sidetracked.
You need to set up some diversion tactics for when you feel this way.
Play an online game like trivia machine or sudoko. Hop online to these boards and find someone who needs encouragement. Keep a "before" picture of yourself in your desk. Get up and walk around. Look at some fitness and health magazine articles.

However, I think you should have a light snack and then revert to a diversion tactic if you need it.

Eat yogurt with a BABY SPOON. It lasts longer that way.
Have some almonds. Crunchy foods take longer to eat. One almond at a time.
A bowl of oatmel with cut-up apples and a bit of walnuts makes a very filling snack. (Don't buy the sugary pre-packaged ones - look for the low sugar).

I don't really know if this is any help, but Quaker does some fantastic rice snack cakes in great flavors (and only 70 calories per serving); that's what kept me stable the first week.

Into the second week of dieting, I just wasn't hungry any more, I was only really hungry at mealtimes, which is always great.

Another innocent snack I eat is Special K. My sister originally bought it for herself, but that stuff tastes great and it's only 100 calories per serving (1 cup = 1 serving)! Pretty decent if you ask me.

It's is not bad to cheat on a diet, in fact it is beneficial.

Loading up with carbs at set intervals (every week or two depending on calories) will raise leptin levels and metabolic rate.

More water weight will go on in the days after, but more fat will be lost in the subsequent days due to a rise in BMR.

I find that to kill a craving a handful of nuts does the trick. Luckily they sell them for a quarter at my work so I get some walking in while I get them. Also, a small glass of V8 helps.
