I have a big birthday bash to attend tonight and am already fretting over how to avoid temptation! There will be an open bar and a huge buffet. Any suggestions on how to handle it?

Hey there I am faced with this situation all the time lot's of kids in my family lol I would either eat all the healthy foods that the party has to offer or keep portions small or what I usually do is take a few low cal snack bars pk a healthy sandwhich or fill up on foods before you go then just nibble at the party, hope this helps Tammy

scope out the buffet first... and eat only what looks really good and isn't readily available to you... for instance -chocolate chip cookies are extremely ordinary and are available at any time - don't waste your calories on them.. instead go for somethng more unique... that you would really enjoy.
Alcohol consumption lowers inhibitions - food wise as well - so keep your drinking in check... have a cocktail or two but spread them out and have club soda or something inbetween

Thanks! I am sure I will do my best to hit the healthy options, like chicken skewers and veggies. What I worry about is the bowls of chips! Salty crunchy snacks are my weak spot.
I enjoy good wine and will allow myself a glass of red while I am there.
Love the suggestion of taking along a nutrition bar. That might really help when they start passing cake.
Good point about skipping the ordinary foods too. Why waste calories on things that I can have anytime. If I am lucky, the caterer will bring nothing but ordinary foods!

and honestly - as I've said here a billion times -don't stress over it -this isa lifestyle change... you'll have to live with these new habits for the rest of your life.. as long as you don't let one evening of not the wisest choices turn into 12 days of it... enjoy yourself and no real damage done.. Just be reasonable.

Mal, I have to say, your advice was awesome. When I was there I looked at the food and thought, stick to what isn't common...no need to eat chips!. There was homemade Lumpia, a treat, so I had one. It ended up being no big deal at all. Thank you.
