30 Minutes of Walking/Running Everyday?

How much can you lose in five months if you walk/run for 30 minutes on the treadmill seven days a week? I usually hit 2 to 2.5 miles.

I am also watching what I eat, but not anything too drastic. I'm NOT a vegetarian although I will be trying to stay away from meat as much as possible.

I want to lose forty pounds by June and I'm 187.4 right now as I type this.

Thanks!

Good question. I'd like to hear some answers too, though I'm sure it's different for everyone.

You can calculate that at startyourdiet dot com. That site doesn't do much, but it has a calculator where you can put in your starting weight and your desired weight target. It'll calculate how long it'll take.

But on average most diet sites do not have options of losing more than 3.5 pounds a week. This is obviously for safety & health reasons. So, maybe 3.5 pounds a week should be considered the maximum amount of weight to lose safely. In order to do that, you'd need to do 45 minutes of exercise a day. At 30 minutes of exercise a day, plus a proper diet, that's probably 2.5 pounds loss a week.

Assuming that is true, you could lose 12 pounds a month. So, 60 pounds by June if you're serious about it. It would only be efficient if you warmed up, exercised seriously, then winded down. 40 pounds seems to be a very realistic goal, if it's maintained.

I thought that it was okay to eat meat, as long as it's chicken or fish only?

Cheers,
George

Nobody can answer that question with the information you provided. Think of it like this. This is a jig saw puzzle. You provided us one piece. And then you asked us what is the picture on the puzzle.

Walking is a great exercise. It expends some calories, it improves health, etc.

But if you're not in a caloric deficit, you won't lose weight just because you're walking. Exercise in and of itself doesn't cause weight loss. Calorie deficits do.

I highly suggest reading the stickies.

being 145 pounds, walking at 3.5 miles per hour at a #4.5 incline (i dont know what that is) I burn 190 cals. It takes 3500 calories burned to lose 1 pound of weight. Assuming you ate as much as your body burned normally in a day ~2000 cals, then every week you would lose (if you were my size with those walking figures) between .3-.5 pounds a week.

Well, I'm 188-ish and I am at the preset incline. But the MAJORITY of the 30 minutes I'm at 5 miles per hour. One or two songs I do at 6 miles per hour, and maybe one whole song or half a song I walk at 3.8 miles per hour.
