Oops. I changed all of my posts too. WOW we are doing grrrrrrrreat!

I will check out that website about the steps. Yes 5000 is a lot of steps in a day but they recommend that you do that many in a day to maintain a healty lifestyle. I just wasn't sure how to gage it if I did less than 5000

*hands everyone a souvenir badge of the town's emblem*

(yes, it's 2:50am and i'm wide awake and bored. heheh.)

I got my bottle of water in hand, I've gone to the washroom and I am on my way!

I aerobicized for a 1.2 km this evening. I am very proud of myself.

Our total distance left to travel is.

514.68 Kms

actually, make that 512.68 km.
I walked around the block during the yesterday.
and holy hell in a hand basket, is it ever hot. Toronto is 32C in MAY!! yeesh! who needs to go into a sauna when I can just sit in my house and wilt as I type.

and yeah... i was quite awake and bored the other night. hehehe.
but um.. yeah. hope everyone liked their souvenir.
it's a souvenir to remind us all we've crossed over 60km in distance! WOOT!!

so how's everyone doing? I realized I've lost 34 pounds right now and my pants are getting too big for me. I'm constantly pulling them up. What are you guys doing in terms of clothes? Tailoring? Buying new ones? I want to get new clothes soon but that's gonna be pricey to get a complete new wardrobe almost.

Hi, I'm New :)

I'm not really sure where to make an introduction...but I do need support and I am in the 200+ range, so I'll make it here.

I haven't really dieted in years as my weight has never bothered me. It's just been a slow growth pattern and it wasn't until just a few months ago that I stood naked on the scale and went "OMG I'm heading towards 300 lbs if things don't change."

I need to do something.

I have been slowly losing weight. I started reducing my intake of food (I really don't want to count calories) in January, and it seems like I've been losing 1 pound a week. It's mind boggling slow when I read how much others seem to be able to lose in a week!

Part of my need for support stems from the fact that no one in my family has noticed, none of my friends. I don't want to go around announcing I'm on a diet. When I quit smoking, I did it, without making any announcements - I really don't like the feeling of failure if I "fall off" so I tend not to say anything to anyone around me.

Yesterday on a walk with my 9 year old daughter, she said something to me about how much she was enjoying the walk, and "besides mom, I really think you need to lose some weight" Surprisingly, I didn't scream at her "WHAT? You can't notice the 19 lbs I've already LOST?"

If this isn't the right place to post, or if it's only for those who are walking and calculating their distances, could someone point me in the right direction

Thanks,
Debi

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site but I know that it will be a great help to me. Just reading some of ya'lls stories has been an inspiration. I would like to join this group if that's okay. I too am in the 200's, and hope to be out of them by the end of this year. I've got about 50 to lose before I'm in the 100's. It's been a very long time since I have been in the 100's, I guess it was when I was about 15. I'm 22 now. I am also going to start walking, so will someone explain to me a little about what you guys are doing with your distances?

hi guys,

of course you can join us. this club is open to anyone but especially for those people over 200 pounds. so jump right in.

right now we're in the middle of a club challenge. Basically, we're walking from one point (Vancouver) to another point (Banff). We started out with a distance 579km and now we're at about 514 km away. Basically, this is just to get the members of our club more active. Everytime you do something like walking, running, cycling, elipticals, stairmasters or even doing steps, count how many kilometers you've done and post here. It's only for fun and really is just a way to get the members motivated about fitness.

but this thread isn't just about the challenge, you can talk about anything in here. since we're all in the same boat with alot of pounds to lose, I'm sure we're all experiencing the same things. so please join us.

M2M - I know how you feel but I got that comment from my own mother. At my highest weight, I was 308 pounds. I'm now 274 and she'd prodd me and say she doesn't notice any change. blah. that's why I find support online too. congrats though on losing 19 pounds so far. Bravo! *applauds* and even more spectacularly, on giving up the smokes.

Congratulations on the 34 pounds!! That is terrific!

I sat down today and plotted out my past weight gain and my future weight goals, and somewhere along the list I wondered when people will start to notice

I realized that I have gained 4.5 pounds each year over the last 16 years. That doesn't seem like much! Although, I don't want to spend 16 years losing it

My current weight loss is averaging 1 pound a week. Which seems so small - what is a realistic amount of weight one can expect if I walk and watch how much I eat?

As for walking, I just started walking "a loop" with my daughter in the evening. You can add my 1 mile from last night to the on going total to Banff.

My husband camped there years ago - and I really want to camp there too!

We camp (and hike) a lot - roughly 1/10th of our year is spent sleeping in our tent. How should we compute hiking or walking into your totals?

I don't own a bike and I wouldn't recognize an eliptical if I bumped into it

As for giving up the smokes, that was back in '90 - the year I started my weight gain, surprisingly enough!

Thanks for the welcome, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

I'm back!

Well, put me down for at least 1.68 km - through a lake. I did a bunch of swimming this weekend. With M2M's mile, that gets the total to 509.4 km!

I had a hard time avoiding desserts this weekend, but an easier time with my meals. I stopped at a roadside stand and bought a bag of home grown tomatoes to take with me to our friends' house by the lake. I ate a whole tomato by myself with four of my meals this weekend. They were so delicious, and so satisfying. I LOVE home grown tomatoes. I think next summer the twins will be big enough that I can safely plant some tomato plants and have tomatoes of my very own!!! Oh, the antioxidants.

Encouragement for M2M

Hey M2M, I kind of know how you feel. I had an idea, though...

Set aside some money for a REALLY great outfit for Christmas. Set aside some more money for a fabulous haircut, some new makeup, maybe a pedicure. The works.

Don't tell anybody about your weight loss progress. If anyone notices, be coy and just say thank you and move on. Hold onto your patience, because you will reveal your incredible SECRET IDENTITY at a big family gathering or other Christmas party in mid-December!

It will be like one of those makeover shows, where you walk in transformed, and the eyes that have not noticed your hard work over the next six months will pop out of their sockets as you glide into the room. You will be slimmer, more toned, and more full of confidence than they have ever seen you before. They will wonder why they didn't notice before, but YOU will know that it was because you chose to conceal your SECRET IDENTITY until the time was just right to knock their socks off!

BTW - this is my plan for my in-laws' big Christmas gathering.

heh. i better start typing out your full names or i'm gonna start confusing twinmom2791 with twinsmom22. is everyone having twins?

M2M - thanx for the cheer. *blush* I'm very excited cause my mini-goal of 35 pounds is so close now. and yeah. a pound a week is very realistic and a very good do-able. plus it's much better on your body that you don't lose the weight that fast. the way I see it is we all put the weight on gradually, so we can't expect it to magically disappear like that. plus your skin will be uber-thankful. it gives it time to shrink. although you see people lose alot of weight on tv like Biggest Loser, I'm pretty sure they have alot of saggy skin. body needs time to adapt. As for hiking... You can just make a rough estimate. You don't need to be that thorough. Remember, this is just a way to help you get motivated.

twinmom2791 - Mmm. Tomatoes! they're one of my favourite veggies. Yummy. and... LOL. I LOVE your idea about the secret identity thing. sadly, I've already exposed myself to my friends and family.

It looks like alot of us has Christmas in mind as a mini-due date (both twinsmom22 and twinmom2791), it's about 6 months away. I think... by Christmas, I'd like to be 240 which is about 30 pounds from now (a conservative but realistic goal). Come on guys... We can do it you guys! p'-'q

Twinmom2791, the secret identy is a fabulous plan and it would be very fun to pull off!

I wouldn't be able to spring my new self on anyone, since the people I'll see at Christmas are the people I see every day though!

Initial_C, you are so close to your mini goal! Even if your mom hasn't noticed, I'm sure you must feel it in your clothes! I know I do after 19 lbs!

If a pound a week is doable, then is it possible to lose 5-7 a month without radical excercising? (I'm just not up to that yet!) I did walk a mile tonight with my daughter, but that's not what I call radical I planned out my whole goal list based on 5-7 pounds a month. I hope it's realistic.

Oh, and is it you who are keeping track of the km? I'm a USAmerican who missed the metric system somewhere along the way, so I would have to google the info if you need it!

Count me in for a Christmas mini due date!

It's closer to 7 months (30 weeks) away since it's near the end of December

I would like to be at 195 for Christmas, that's close to 45 pounds. At 1.5 pounds a week, that *should* be do-able.

Of course, that doesn't account for the month of November, my official holiday baking month

Wow ladies it sure has been busy in here.

Welcome all. Feel free to talk about whatever you want while you are he. I pretty much started it for those of us who have a long way to go before they are out of the 200's

Speaking of support my mom is really supportive and we walk together a lot. My mother-in-law on the ohter hand is horrible. She is kinda nuts to put it nicely.

When I was pregnant I was wearing some new maternity clothing she had not seen and she said to me and I do not lie. "Oh Jenn you don't look so fat in that outfit" My husband was appauled and said "you mean pregnant." She said "oh".

Another time we were out on the boat and it was so very hot my husband jumped in to cool off but "I didn't have a bathing suit so I didn't. So hubby said" why don't you sit at the back and put your feet in. His mom said "she won't fit she's too big" Can you believe the balls on this lady? There are so many more stories I could go on for days.

No wonder I can't stand her. Since I've had the baby she watches what I eat and if I say no to a second helping or dessert she says oh are you on a diet? You aren't eating very much. It takes all of my strenght not to tell this woman where to go. She constantly looks me up and down.

Oh and the real kicker was when I had my baby she told me that when she had her son she could put her jeans on and leave the hospital in her regular size clothes. Bla Bla Bla. Cruel woman.

I just thought I would share that little tid bit. My best friend and I have always been yo yo dieters and always really support eachother which is really nice. But I find so much encouragement and support here it has been really helping me eventhough I have not lost anyting in like a week and a half. Very frustrating but I have you guys.

About clocking your distance as initial c said it's just for fun to motivate. I use a pedometer to track my distance. They aren't that expensive I think anywhere from 12 -30 dollars at Canadian Tire if your Canadian, if not then Walmart, or Target may have them. I use the pedomether because I kind of like knowing how far I have moved in a day.

Gee I rambled on and on

At any rate Welcome to the fourm!

Hey we should have a graduation ceremony of some kind as we move out of the 200's

My December goal is to be 200lbs by Christmas. That is pretty steep because I have to lose 10lbs a month.
