welcome to the club Thadd! We're doing a walking challenge from Vancouver to Banff right now. And as M2M stated, we have 503.6 km left! Feel free to join in. I weighed in about 283 quite recently too actually. I plateau-ed there for 3 weeks! So I know that number well. heh. Why don't you tell us more about yourself?

I only measure distance of how much I walk when I "go for a walk." Cause I consider that like my exercise whereas everyday thing is the neccessary routine.
okay, so I need a lil support here. tomorrow I'm going to a buffet for dinner. EEEEPS! I know. My friend is moving away soon so we're having a get together before he leaves. So... EEEP! Let's hope I don't go overboard. If I do... I'm gonna have to make up for this SO badly at the gym this weekend. (at least that'd add to our trip to Banff )
Welcome Thadd
We don't just do challenges here we also support each other so feel free to rant if you need to get something off of your chest or just chit chat.
Since I've started stepping up my exercise with more walking and strength training. I haven't lost any weight it's been almost a week since I started this. I can feel it in my muscles so I'm thinking I'm gaining muscle and that is why I'm not losing weight. Can that really happen that fast though?
Welcome Chicago. Yes most of us here have a pretty long way to go. It can get a bit daunting when you look at where you are and where you want to go. I try not to think about how much I have to lose but try to focus on what I want to lose this week. It helps most of the time but I can get so frustrated. I love the fact that there are people here who can understand what I am going through.
Welcome and feel free to log your kms here. When we started there were only two Canadians here so we use kms instead of miles.
Hi Chicago,
I'm glad you found this site - I only found it this week myself.
As Jenn said, it is great to find a group that understands what we're going through! I have felt so alone since I started losing weight - to date, no one in my family has even noticed that I've lost weight. Eventually they will, but not having any support has made it really easy to eat the can of pringles my husband brings home
Now I feel like I CAN do this, I didn't have over 100 pounds to lose - I have 1 to 2 pounds a week. That's how I have to think of it otherwise, I'll do what I've always done - put it off. I can't afford to do that any more.
It's one day at a time - and in my case, sometimes, I meal at a time
Well, I don't have any during and after pictures yet, but I was thinking of sharing my starting shots. These are not the worst pictures, nor are they the best that's been taken of me at my 250+ range.
I hope to post more when I get down to my first mini goal of 225.
I don't know if I'm doing this right, so here I go...
re: pedometers - I do not have one, but I used my car to measure a route about 1 mile long around the neighborhood. I walk that route and log it, but not the walking around the house I do durning the day. I posted a walk of 1.68km one day, which was really just my attempt to knock off that pesky hundredths place! I did an extra couple of laps around the backyard to get that 0.08 km!
re: buffets - Initial-C, my real downfall at buffets is the bread. I love bread like I love p__za. Once I get ahold of it, I can't stop eating it! Maybe if you are like me, you can avoid the bread and still enjoy the other buffet items without splurging too much. Good luck.
Okay, this might sound really lame, but I had no idea how many calories were in cookies. I knew the nutrition panel was on the back of the package, but being overweight and not really trying to do anything about it, I just never looked at that information!
I just saw today that 2 tiny little Fig Newtons have 120 calories!!! (I don't even want to think how many calories are in my Oreos!) I started looking around the house at things I could have eaten for less than 120 calories. I could have had a whole snack size box of Corn Pops. An Eggo waffle with a drizzle of syrup. A whole raspberry-filled Angel Food snack cake from Little Debbie (that's actually the same calories). A Blue Bell mini ice cream sandwich is only 100 calories, and it is bigger and WAY more fun than 2 measly Fig Newtons!
Well, anyway, I used to eat about 4 to 6 Fig Newtons when I would have a snack. I could have been having two waffles, a bit of syrup, and a small glass of orange juice for the same calories!!!! I am smarter than that. Why didn't I ever look before??? Well, my eyes are open now, and I realized that I have been choosing entirely the wrong snacks based simply on their size. I don't even LIKE Fig Newtons that much.
Are you a thrill ride junkie????? That sure looks like a thrill ride you are sitting on in the first pic. I LOVE rides. I always worry that I am not going to fit when I am standing in line, though. That will be a great part of being thinner.

Thanks twinmom2791 - I don't *feel* pretty. I just feel BIG.
The ride was actually just a free fall type ride at Legoland - it wasn't much of a thrill ride, but I do like roller coasters and I always feel the same way about wondering/worrying whether or not I'll fit.
I'm really tired of it!
The other picture is from New Year's eve, less then two weeks before my 40th birthday. I think I was more shocked to hit the high 250's then I was turning 40!

I had to laugh at this! I do these things all the time. Or worse, I'll have two vanilla creme cookies and feel so good about my 'control'. Only to turn around and have another two cookies in 15 minutes...then another...
As for buffets, they truly are the worst for me and I seem to be in those situations a lot. I'm also in a wine club that meets once a month and the food is amazing...not to mention my girl friends get together once a month and we all bring food, my book club meets once a month and we all bring food...
urgh!
I did read a tip on this site (?) about eating an apple before you head off to a restaraunt or buffet - it's supposed to help you feel fuller, faster. I plan on trying it as well as using an apple for my dinner cooking time snack. We'll see if it helps!
I also spent ten minutes jumping rope. I have never had my butt kicked so hard by a jump rope! I got up to 20 consecutive jumps without tripping over the rope before I quit. But it was NOT a fun exercise!!!
Jumping rope is an excellent exercise. 20 in a row yet. I don't think I could do that anymore. Boxers use jump rope for training. When you think about it it gets your arms and legs moving, not to mention your blood a pumping.
No wonder I was such a physically fit little kid. That was all I did was jump rope, rollerskate ( the 4 wheel variety), ride my bike, play hopscotch, run around playing tag and on top of that I danced twice a week. If I were half as active as I was as a child I'd be as slim as could be.
