Rep Power: 72 | | It's shockingly low in protein and veggies and insanely high in carbs. It's also not a sustainable "lifetime" way of eating for most people. I venture to guess that most people who do this diet lose a lost of weight because of the insane calorie restriction that the diet forces on you, and the minute they stop the diet, they begin to gain the weight back.
The diet doesn't teach you anything about healthy eating or learning to eat "normal" every day foods in reasonable amounts.
Also, from what I've seen, this diet is NOT compatible with any kind of healthy exercise; you can't sustain healthy exercise on the calories and nutrients that the menu allows.
Fad diets don't work. Bottom line. |

Rep Power: 0 | | Any diet is as healthy as an individual wants to make it. Even with Weight Watchers if you are allowed 23 points you can eat 23 points of chocolate rather than selecting healthier choices. And all diets can be boring as well. It takes a little bit of creativity to spice things up a bit, but is very easy to do with any diet. If you are a "sheeple", then you may not be creative enough and may well find yourself bored. Besides, sometimes boring = simple and simple = less time cooking and doing dishes. Thumbs up for less dishes. Grab an apple and go.
I am vegetarian and this seems like a good fit for me. And plenty of carbs for running and other activities. My starches often come from veggies as well. There are plant based proteins as well. Even grapefruit has protein. Protein does not have to come from animals. We get more protein than we expect because we are not taught to include plant based proteins.
Today is day two. I swear I am NOT getting on the scale for the first month. I am just going to be happy as my clothes get looser on me. I have about 65 pounds to lose.
So far today:
bf: toast (1) oatmeal, giant mango, water
lu: baked potato(10 oz)w/pepper, fresh mango salsa for on top of my salad, large romaine salad fresh from my garden, water
dinner: tbd but will include fresh tomatoes - am I supposed to count tomatoes as as fruit or a veggie??? Maybe with some sprouted whole grain toast....hmmmm.
Is anyone else still around here?
I put on a ton of weight when the doctor mistakenly put me on steriod inhaler. Bummer. Turns out it was a misdiagnosis and my regular doctor was quite unhappy. Also turns out I just need to be drug free. Nothing wrong with me at all. Except the whole weight thing. Sigh.
The real bottom line is that all diets work. Even those crazy unsafe ones - like eating bacon and icecream for breakfast. Or --- pancakes, sausage/bacon, eggs/omelette w/cheese, toast with butter and a cup of coffee. Now THAT is unhealthy. YOU need to make permanent changes though - with lifestyle and eating habits both. Any diet can take the weight off - only you can keep it off. Go back to the same bad habits and you will achieve the same bad results.
Hope everyone is doing great! |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Newbie here Hi everyone! It's great to see everyone achieving such amazing results. I just started the diet yesterday and felt great. I was a bit concerned though when I woke up this morning to staggering dizzyness. While it was nice to see I went from 158.7 to 157.0 in a day, I am a bit scared. Perhaps my body is adjusting to the diet? Diabetes and insulin resistance run in my family so I was a bit sceptical about the large amount of sugar intake on this diet. I am also an exercise freak, martial arts and resistance training 3-5 times a week (which I did yesterday). I am eating breakfast as I type this and I'm starting to feel a bit better but still, any thoughts please? sorry about the long post heh. |

I have tried the Rice Diet. You do lose weight quickly. But it is not healthy weight loss or a lifestyle change. I found I couldn't sustain it long term. At most a few days. I love meat and am not a fan of rice. I also like a little salt. My salt intake doesn't seem to slow my weight loss. I don't know though. Maybe if I cut out salt I would lose even faster.
I have found counting calories and fat grams is the best solution for me. Combined with exercise you can't go wrong. I look for low fat recipes or my own that I can modify to make them healthier. I do have cravings. I give into them somewhat. If I do I don't binge. We all have favorites and sometimes they are not the best options. If I eat them in moderation I won't binge with something that doesn't satisfy my craving. |

Rep Power: 87 | | There hasn't been any success stories with this diet. This is not a lifestyle change. Its a very restrictive diet and everyone I know went off of it within a couple of weeks. I'd like to suggest you aim for a "lifestyle change" not a diet. You can read the stickies around the forum, its a great place to start! |

Come up with a sensible calorie level and make your nutrition as healthy as possible. You can monitor the levels of nutrients in your food using a free account from FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal. Set targets for protein, fibre, fats, carbs, sodium, calcium. You will lose weight quickly and be better nourished than ever. You will find that eating in this manner is also satisfying and sustainable.
I lost my weight with this approach - losing the first 147 pounds in 14 months. I have been eating in this manner for 33 months now and have no wish to alter my eating habits (although I have raised my calories a little and reduced my exercise a little too). Maintenance is easy. You do not get those results with fad diets such as the rice diet. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
