Evil Apples

I read somewhere that eating fruit can be bad for you as the equation is: Fr = Sg = F, or Fruit = Sugar = Fat.

If it's true, that sucks! I aim for my 5-a-day, mainly through fruit as veg isn't as easy to prepare quickly. So in my stife to be healthy, am I just putting on weight?

Thoughts?

A regular apple has about 80 calories, 20 grams of carbs, 4 grams of fiber (provided you eat the skin)Vitamin A and C, Iron, Calcium, and Potassium. They are a natural breath freshener, fairly inexpensive, and enough varieties are avaialable to please even the pickiest among us... I'd say they are a good thing...

On the low carb diets, they were evil... and bacon was good... Now I looooove bacon... but I have a hard time beleiving that an apple is evil and bacon is good... maybe inthat altrnate universe where I weigh 120 pounds, can see without my glasses, and Sean Connery reads me to sleep every night...

Veggies are probably a good addition because it adds variety and adds color to your diet... the color is good because it's different vitamins... Veggies can be a pain to prepare, what I've been doing -that helps me... Is right after i'm done grocery shopping - I'll buy ahead or two of celery.. and I will wash and cut the celery and keep it in plastic bags in the fridge ready for me to grab a handful whenever i want... Id o the same thing with fresh herbs so they are awalys available and have no excuse not to have them...

Motivation is not something you find or lose, have or don't have. It is the product of how you see yourself in the world: active or passive, effective or ineffective, powerful or victimized, normal or pathological.

Cheers maleficent, that's made me feel lots better

The thing you do with celery's cool, I'll try the same thing with carrots. Fresh herbs as well? Does a portion of those count?

i use tons of fresh herbs - virtually no calories... and it just adds a ton of flavor to boring tuna fish or chicken...
i think if you use enough of them -then it might count.. .

Haha, yea I guess it would count if you ate a body weight's worth of mint or something!

Not a particularly exciting herb, but when I have tuna sandwiches, I sprinkle it with a bit of pepper. Mmm... tasty good! Just had one for lunch; a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich with pepper. *smacks lips!*

Will definitely get some mint for my next tuna sandwich.

What type of herbs would you recommend, maleficent?

Sounds good...

Once a week, I will buy a big bunch of Flat leaf parsley, cilantro, and watercress (i'm not sure watercress is actually an herb but i use it as such..)
then smaller packs of mint and dill if I am planning on salmon that week (and i try for salmon once a week)

The parsley and cilantro I will wash and chop up and leave in air tight containers for when I use them... I love the grassiness of cilantro - if you've not had it - it's the green stuff in Salsa - it's just got a really nice aftertaste and I use it in everything from tuna salad to adding it to cous cous or just in marinades...

and of course garlic and ginger.... and always fresh lemons... (one other must have kitchen item is a lemon zester - the zest has an amazing amount of flavor - also awesome in tuna fish...)

I will occassionally make fruit salsa - especially good whent he fruit is over ripe and about to go bad - i chop it all up with some lime juice and either cilantro or mint..yummy with plain broiled or grilled chicken or fish.

Just as a point, was extremely naughty at lunch and had a tuna sandwich... a footlong tuna sandwich... from Subway. Had it with cheese, toasted, with Honey Mustard. That was nice! Just while we were thinking of season Do you uses any honey with anything?

Lately I've used honey in terayaki marinades...

the other night i tried basting a little bit on some chicken tenders i was broiling - and it was good -but just didn't work that great... it needed something else - just not sure what...

I do love honey mustard...

Mmm... the terayaki marinades sound fab! Will need to try sticking honey in more things!

I didn't think the honey mustard would work with the tuna, but it did. Something else I'm going to try with tuna is mixing it with salad cream instead of mayo. I think that'll be quite nice, and lower in cals too, apparently.
