Weight loss questions ^ ^

Hi, I'm new to the forums...

I only (lol) have about 15-20 pounds to lose, (ten of which I gained in the past two months ) but I've never lost weight in my life so I don't really know where to start... I've exercised about an hour every day for the past two years, but that still doesn't keep the pounds off.

Do I just have a very slow metabolism? What's a good range of calories to eat per day in coordination with exercise?

Also, what do you all do to control binge eating?

Thank you in advance for the help!

The best way for me to control binge eating is to keep a food log someplace. I like doing it online somewhere. Knowing I have to "confess my sins" keeps me from eating many an extra piece of chocolate. It's all there, staring you in the face, in black and white. *laugh* Anyway, what kind of exercise are you doing? How many calories are you currently taking in? Sometimes switching up your routine can help. I'm sure someone else will have other suggestions, I'm pretty new here, too. Good luck.

Thanks... I do 40-60 minutes on the elliptical every day, I hate running, but maybe I could try that. I was eating a lot before I started dieting a few days ago, probably upwards of 3000 calories every day. Oops ><

Again, thanks for the advice! The food log sounds like a good idea, I guess I'll use my journal for that (:

I'm not sure I read how old you are... but if you're on the "getting older" side... It could possibly be a thyroid disorder. Other than that i'd say just vary your routine more. You won't lose any weight doing the same things all the time, your muscles get used to it.

Oh, I hate binge eating. I used to do it a lot, and even now I still am tempted. I'd start having a piece of toast for an after work snack and then have another piece with some cheese, then start digging aroudn in the fridge, and the next thing I'd eaten an entire meal between meals.

Keeping a food log is excellent as blackwdw said. Knowing that I have to record every piece of junk food I eat is a good deterrent.

Now I just try and keep away from food if I feel tempted, and I also weigh up the satisfaction of eating lots right now against the satisfaction of seeing my weight go down. When I'm standing on the scales tomorrow, will I think back fondly on the binge, or will I be annoyed with myself?

I know I'll be annoyed, so I keep away from the eating. It's tough at times, particularly if you've entered into a routine which involves binging, like I have in the past.
