Quick question

For the past 5 weeks my pattern seems to be
Lose--Gain--Lose--Gain--Lose

I've been doing the same things though. Could this be because of muscle? Also I know people talk about yo-yo dieting. I don't exactly know what it is but would this be it? I guess I just want to know, is this pattern ok? Obviously I can't change the pattern itself, but I just want to make sure that I'm not doing something bad.

Thanks everyone!

yo-yo dieting happens when you do such diets that are extreme like not eating ... once you have lost your desired weight, and you go back to a somewhat regular diet, your weight bounces back hard. If your weight is only fluctuating by a couple pounds, then I wouldn't worry about it ... you may have hit a plateau and may need to increase your cardio and/or weights or take another look at your diet.

However, as you are weight training (and doing it properly) then the scale is not going to be very accurate as muscle will be replacing the fat that you are losing ... the same volume of muscle weighs twice as much as fat. So, if you are seeing a decrease in dimensions, but ur weight is the same or higher, then it can be attributed to muscle gain.

Ok thank you. I think for whatever reason, I was just being paranoid at the moment. I just wanted to be sure that this was safe. I would either gain 0.1-1lb or stay the same, and then the following week I would lose weight. So I'm guessing it's the fact that I'm taking off the fat and putting on muscle (which would cause my mass to be smaller but weight to be the same) and then for the following week it's like my metabolism is increased because of the additional muscle.

thanks so much for the response! It definitely made me feel better!

errtu140 is on a distinguished road
Well it seems like more of a plateau than muscle building. Change things up a little, maybe add a few hundred more calories for a month then bring them back down again, or change your workout routine, change cardio to HIIT, lift weights in a different rep range, or something that will keep your body guessing. Good luck to ya.
