"In women, even substantial increases in exercise were not enough to produce weight loss if they did not decrease fat consumption. Men, however, were able to lose weight through increased exercise alone."
That really makes sence and it's what I do. I exercise and I changed my lifestyle eatting less than recomended to help with weightloss. I would never say I'm on a diet because I'm not. Once I get to my goal weight I'm just going to up my calories to maintain and of course still exercise.

Increased exercise alone will work for anyone. If you have a lot of fat, it means a lot of calories. But if you just exercise off those cals you will lose weight. Sounds like excuses if you ask me.

i don't know about the rest of you, but for me, exercising is so much easier than not eating!
anyway, i have a few doubts about the findings (although not having seen the study, it's hard to judge). it doesn't look like there was a very rigorous control of the variables - it could be the case that women are just more likely to up their caloric intake in response to increased exercise. i sincerely doubt that a woman who maintained her caloric intake at maintenance level and burned off 500 calories per day through exercise would not lose weight.....
