Post Gall Bladder surgery - Bile oozes

My friend has undergone a keyhole gall bladder removal surgery about 3 weeks back. She still continues to secrete bile through the catheter inserted to collect the bile on a temporary basis. The surgeon expressed concern after the second day of the surgery and again performed another keyhole surgery to correct some anomaly.

She is regularly taking tests to check for liver functions and an ultrasound scan to look for any sign of trouble. Is this normal ?

Has anyone of you experienced this before ? I am so worried about her.

I had my gallbladder removed by keyhole surgery at the end of February. I did not have any of the symptoms that you describe. At no point did I have a catheter or oozing of any kind. I went home after one night in hospital; I felt like I had been hit by a bus though! Three weeks after surgery I was fine, although still taking strong painkillers.

Prior to surgery, my surgeon made it quite clear that each patient has a unique physical make up, so every surgery can have its own problems. It sounds like your friend has a medical team that are monitoring her progress, so it seems that she is getting good care. It also sounds like she has a good friend in you. With medical support and friendship she has the best possibility of a good recovery, even if her road to wellness is longer than other's.

Best wishes to both of you,
Kristi.

Thanks KristiB for your quick reply and the kind message.

I have heard from the internet that each case is so unique and the process of recovery is equally unique. But if we can share our experiences, it is so comforting.
