HI Jools

nope, you can't mix egg and cheese, cos that would be mixing proteins, and we're not allowed to do that. Although it would make omelettes a lot yummier

can't help with the water problem, i just make myself drink it, but it's hot enough here that I need to drink it.

good luck

Hi Jools,
You will find the more water you drink, the more you will want to drink it! On Saturday, I was down a bit on my water intake, and my body really noticed it, after a week of probably drinking over my requirements. Your body doesn't cry out for water initially, but after a while, it will!

Another food question in relation to cheese. Just wondering if anyone knows why we can't have camembert cheese on the list. It's the only cheese I can find that doesn't have preservatives, and my Cohen's consultant who I only hear from when I email her, says she doesn't know why just not allowed it.

I LOVE cheese and although I"ve got Feta once a week I'd like cheese on another day too.

Feeling a bit down today. Does anyone else experience total lethargy?

Exclamation cheeses to pleases

IchooseLife:

Camembert is very high in saturated fat (per 100g it's 15g: with 300 calories) and it has a very high sodium content. Whereas mozerella (light) is only 10g of sat fat per 100g (254 calories) and low sodium.

So I hope that answers your question! We can only have feta once a week because of the high salt content (I could easily do feta 5 days a week!) but yeah, the sodium is not good for our body, especially when losing weight.

FYI: feta per 100g is 15g of sat fat (264 cals), the benefits is feta is high in protein, riboflavin, Vit B12, calcium and phosphorus - so I guess the Dr is giving a treat once a week. I'll take it! But it's a hard cheese to buy a small amount of and keep for 1 week (so I make sure I buy it fresh and ásk for extra brine so it keeps for longer).

FYI: Ricotta is very low in sodium, but a higher fat content (per 100g, 174 cals, with 8g sat fat).

FYI: Cottage cheese per 100g is 1g sat fat, 90cals and has lots of good things in it. But is a little high in sodium. This is probably the best cheese choice for those out there that can have it.

i can't find mozerella light at my IGA so i buy the mozerella pear, i don't know if it's low fat or not. i am also a mad keen lover of all things cheese especially camenbert and brie. however i find the mozerella seems to really satisfy. the other option is to have boccocini YUM!!!!

Hey everyone, how are you all doing?

I have been flat, tired, hungry and breaking out in the face for 2 weeks now and I am so &*#$ing sick of it! I am sick of the food, so today I go and get saladas and p & n diet pub squash for something different and take a good hard look at my size 11 jeans I want to wear at xmas.... but I really feel like I want a meal off. Can anyone tell me the repercussions of this to put me off, or give some advice? like, how bigger damage is just taking a break for just one evening? I don't know what to do I feel like crap (s'cuse the french) and I am so so so so so so so craving normal food- and before you ask it is not that time of month. Today I slept all day because I was so exausted and dizzy, its so weird whats happening to me? I'm not supposed to feel this way!!

anyway, I hope you are all travelling smoothly, RJM well done on a successful family dinner and Brieziel, the knobby mozarella is fine according to my consultant even tho it is full fat, the only mozerella I can get from supermarket that is low fat is grated and that has heaps of preservatives in it. Try your local markets or local small goods merchant, I found this no name reduced fat mozarella from the central markets that tastes like tasty mature cheese its so yum and not rubbery like normal mozarella.

sorry about the long post guys

xxBec

Mermaid_sister,
Don't do it!!!!!!! The least damage you will do is add a week to the end of the program. Do you really want to do this for 1 week more than you have to??
I know from experience that 1 meal usually ends up being more than 1 meal (in my case it ended up being 15kgs). It is really quite hard to get back on once you have broken it.
If I get cravings, I go and buy myself a really nice piece of fillet steak and cook it till it is just done (nice and rare) and have that with some yummy veges like fresh asparagus or something. I feel like I have had a treat and it usually helps.
I received this info from the clinic. Something here might help you:
GETTING HUNGRY OR CRAVING? Check the list below
Are you………………..
Following the eating plan 100%? If you are deviating/cheating even if it doesn’t seem that dramatic to you, you will not trigger the Human Growth Hormone, and you will experience hunger. You must not skip meals or even have more or less than what is on your eating plan
Eating Apple? If so leave the apple out, and replace with another fruit as Apples can trigger hunger
Having more than 2 crispbreads together at the same time? This will register in your body as starch and result in interference with the growth hormone
Drinking minimum 2lts of water per day? If you are not the toxin build up will interfere with Human Growth Hormone and cause hunger
Having hidden starch? Check your herbs, spices, curry powder etc to see that you are not having hidden starch, modified starch, gluten, wheat-flour, crushed cereal, MSG and preservatives, and any such additives.
Having too much fruit? Fruit contain sugar, so having more than you are allowed will trigger insulin and interfere with the processes taking place in your body due to the Eating Plan. Remember do not have 2 small fruits in place of 1 medium, or any dried fruit or fruit juices. Don’t squeeze lemon into your tea or water.
Exercising too much? Your body can cope with certain levels of exercise, but excessive amounts of exercise, or sudden bursts of activity (that the body is not used to) can trigger hunger
Is the weather abnormally cold? (Yes we all say) A cold spell will trigger hunger
Pre menstrual? Fluctuating hormones can trigger hunger (having an extra vitamin in the afternoon will help)
Taking a good multi-vitamin supplement? It is essential to supplement the body while on the Eating Plan. Ensure that your supplement doesn’t have any hidden starch, lactose etc plus that it has the right levels of ingredients, check with us at the clinic if you are unsure about your supplement as the correct vitamin is crucial. Centrum and some others are not recommended while on the program.
Are you close to goal weight? Hunger will come back when you are close to goal weight. It is a sign that you need to order you’re refeed.
Having Yoghurt in the morning? Change to Egg & Veg
Cottage or Ricotta Cheese for lunch? Change to Mozzarella
Any new medication? Check with the clinic
Draining Tuna? It is important to make sure that you drain the fluid before weighing tuna otherwise you will not be having enough protein. John West tuna slices state 185gm on the box but once drained it weighs between 110 – 115gm.
Well I haven't had any weight loss for a couple of days. The only thing I have done different is haveing yoghurt for breakfast for a couple of days, so this morning I went back to having egg and hopefully will see some movement tomorrow. I can take my measurements tomorrow as I'm up to 1 week down. My trousers are really feeling quite loose and I'll be interested to see how many cms down I am.
Have a great night everyone. Talk to you all soon.

what tastes better, a deviation or size 11 jeans?

Mermaid sister it's really not worth it. Like rjm says, try treating yourself with something out of your routine. But you will feel worse after eating something non-diet. The guilt is just not worth it plus adding more time to your plan?

Christmas is only what 7 or so weeks away. You want those size 11's for Christmas or for the New Year?

Are you drinking enough water? Are you taking your multi-vitamins?
Are you eating by routine? If so try and vary your veg as much as you can.

Chin up and go have a long relaxing bath. Go for a slow walk in the cool night air. Do anything but think about being bad!

rjm You are losing weight. Don't scale hop, it's not healthy! If you look every day, you have nothing to look forward to. Try a mini goal of not stepping on the scales for 1 week, then when you drop a heap, come here and gloat to us all! I look forward to it.

Goal 1: Day 1 Monday <achieved>
*Goal 2: No deviations for 1 week (so stay tuned for next Sunday).
Goal 3: Drop 10kg stat.

Well I am back from a family holiday to Kyoto, Osaka, at least 12 meals of deviation. I agree it is hard to get back on the wagon 100%. That being said I had 12 meals at resturants etc that I couldnt weigh, and thus couldnt be 100% sure that it was Cohen approved foods types and many meals that mixed proteins (tofu and meat etc). The end result of all this deviation was that I left for holidays weighing 99KG and I came back weighing 99KG, I didnt gain nor lose weight. My weight loss is very predictable these days and if I was eating a normal Cohen diet I can say absolutely would have been 1KG lighter today. One point was that I didnt eat starches based meals at all, which I think is one key factor to not gaining weight if you deviate. So whilst I dont recommend deviation, I dont think deviation is a disaster, more a bump in the road; just dont fool yourself, know it will limit to some extent your weight loss. If you do deviate then I suggest a bigger steak, more chicken and/or more cohen vegetables, rather than a bag of hot chips (french-fries) or something equally "evil". Actually you will be surprised about how little more you can eat and feel very full.

During the course of the program I have days of feeling tired and hungry, it doesnt seem to be related to deviation or eating different things I just put it down to "one of those things". But a few days latter I am back to feeling fine.

Thumbs up success

"Little by little one walks far"

I declare a national no scales week. Too many of you are scale hopping - which is a no no in the Cohen's handbook!
Who will join me in a no scales week? Starting tomorrow (Tuesday 7 Nov). I wanna see lots of happy smiley faces after a week of no hopping - to reveal bigger and better numbers.

After I weigh in for my end of week 1 on Wednesday I'll join you in the no scaling for the week. Well I have to weigh on Monday for Tommy in the Biggest Loser thread, so I pledge 5 days of scale abstinence

Does anyone else get really really tired? I've not been this tired in .. well since my thryoid played up a decade ago.

I only weigh every couple of weeks when i go in to the clinic, so no probs here.

My home scales don't work, they're totally uncallibrated due to many years of clocking them

Question Question:

Does anyone know or could they find out;

If I want to create a stock using Cohen's only ingredients: to then use the stock to poach my chicken portion, is this allowed?

For example: boil up chicken bones, water, celery, lemongrass, whole garlic clove, fresh ginger. Totally refine the broth so it is solids and fat free. Seeing as it's only natural liquid (much like tea or coffee?).

What do you think?

Goal 1: Day 1 Monday <achieved>
*Goal 2: No deviations for 1 week (so stay tuned for next Sunday).
Goal 3: Drop 10kg stat.

Hi All!

Mermaid Sister - I have only been on the bandwagon for just over a week and I feel much the same as you, although I presume my body is still adjusting. I often full either weak, tired, sick or dizzy - or all of the above! I find when I am feeling sick or dizzy if I havea couple of nibbles of my fruit allowance this will help a bit. I normally dice up my two bits of fruit in the morning and pop them into a container, and then eat throughout the day when I need it. I also find when I am feeling sick, it might be because I have drunk too much water at once on a seemingly empty stomach... But I keep the goal in mind and try to focus! We can all do this together!

In regards to deviations, I also agree with lessfatty, it is not the end of the world if you stray for one meal. I do think that it is self sabotage and it will defintely slow your weightloss, but as long as you aware of the consequences, it is not going to kill you (but it will make things harder...)

MrcMC - Yes, I have bought my dress! Back on February actually when I weighed 90 odd kilo's! I am already at 83 but I am not trying it on again until a month before the wedding... I'll probably need a new dress! Oh well, it will be worth it!!

Dreamer - I too am a 'serial weigher' but I will join you in the no scales week - it might be fun to guess for a week and then see the results at the end!

I hope you all have another good day in your own little worlds, keep up the good work guys.

Dreamer,

How do you intend to weigh the stuff in the stock? Just because you can't SEE it there, doesn't mean it isn't there, otherwise a Glass of water with a spoon of sugar dissolved in it would be fine, I mean it'd go through a filter, there's no 'substance' to it, looks just like broth... etc...

I don't think it would be allowed, and I would CERTAINLY check with my clinic if I were you.

Try poaching your chook in just plain water, with a few herbs and spices added. It'll become brothy as it goes along. That's what I do.
