Rep Power: 0 | | | Hi everyone - so many new names and stories on here... I doubt any of my old buddies are here anymore, but I'm looking forward to getting to know the current Cohens gang!
Well, I originally did Cohen's in 2006, starting on 24th February. I finished re-feed 2kgs above my goal in time for a wedding I was attending on 25th May 2006. I lost 20.5 kgs over that period and managed to keep them off until December 2007. I don't know what went wrong - I had barely put on a kilo since finishing the program for about 18-months. I was eating carbs throughout but keeping portions small and opting for low-carb/carb-free when possible... Anyway, the long and the short of it is that I'm back on the program starting yesterday. I have 11kgs to get to goal but would be happy with 9kgs, taking me to the weight I achieved last time around.
Looking forward to sharing stories and motivating each other on our journey...

Rep Power: 0 | | | moneypenny, nice to see you and well done on your weight loss. I see you done wonders already.
I actually met a lady at the fresh fish shop today that told me she did Cohen's 2 years ago but has gradually put it all back on. She said she ate all the foods she had been missing while on the program.

Rep Power: 0 | | | Long distance weight loss. I hope I not too late to reply in regards to cohens by email. I live 3 hours from my nearest office and I think I have all the support I need via phone calls, emails and this forum. They are only a phone/email away. You just have to be strict with yourself and honest with your weigh in and measurements. There is no point cheating as you are only cheating yourself.
Good luck

Rep Power: 0 | | | quick question re drinks.
I dont have my booklet infront of me, so im making up the details here, but when it lists the soft drinks say;
sprite zero 300ml daily
fanta zero 300ml daily
caff free diet coke 300ml daily
does that mean you can have 300ml of each? as in the above example say 900ml total for the day? or does it mean pick one, and only have 300ml??
Sorry if i have confused anyone.
Thanks

Rep Power: 0 | | | Hiya FB, it means that the ones that are 300mls roughly is the total of that one you can have but you can have 1 litre of a combination of them in one day all up.
Hope that makes sense.

I have another question, might be TMI but the thing is... pre cohens, i know if i drank much water, say a litre in a day, my urine would be almost clear. I have noticed during cohens though its not at all.... i would think drinking all that water would make it clear and its not!!
Could it be that its toxins coming out or something like that??
just seems strange to me.
Again, sorry if TMI.

I'm kind of new here, but I would just like to encourage all the beginners...A week is behind me and I almost gave up - I was tired, hungry, had no energy for anything....I was thinking this isn't for me, because most of women here were saying it takes 3-4 days to feel better...
Well, it took me a week and really, it IS worth it!!!!
Try to distract yourself from food. I know it's hard, you might not have a lot of energy for doing things, but maybe -read, study... -study is what helped me. I was really busy last few days and now I don't even get hungry anymore. I have to remind myself it's time to eat! |

Rep Power: 0 | | i want to believe.... hi there,
i am very curious about cohen's. the results sound superb, etc.
i have lost weight before (5.5 stone) on a british program called lighterlife, like the cambridge diet. basically a VLCD w/ expensive food replacement packs and some group therapy. but sadly after moving back to the US in august 06 i have rapidly gained it all back.
so, my lovely dr. wants me to pick a program, any program, join OA and she will monitor me, etc.
so, my question is: HOW DO WE KNOW IF THEY ACTUALLY READ OUR BLOOD LAB RESULTS? Has anyone compared food plans to see if they are at all different? what do i get for my $250?
i think i want to do this, but i need some clarity. and a lot more info. i have check the website and there is not much there. any clues?
many thanks for your help-

Rep Power: 0 | | | bittenx, everyone is more or less eating the same foods. The blood tests are to make sure your liver and kidneys are functioning correctly as the low calories make your body burn it's fat instead of getting it from food.
It really is a fantastic and you get results so swiftly. You actually get to each at each meal and in between. The recipes are great to.
I wont lie and say it's smooth sailing but it is good most of the time.
I have tried loads of other diets and this is the only one I have stuck to and want to keep going.
X

so basically the bloods are done to make sure you are 'healthy' enough to do a VLCD?....right.
the rapid weight loss is ketosis based? so we are using up all our own glycogen and then burning out fat stores?
ok.
i thought this might be the case. that is really the only way to get such fast results and it dampens your hunger to be in a mild ketogenic state, right?
what drew me to cohen's is that it is REAL FOOD, albeit small controlled amounts, it is not a shake, soup, or powder. i think this makes it really superior to other food plans.
i need to heal my relationship with food and i wonder if cohen's is THE ONE!
thanks so much for helping this newbie in new york!

Yes to all your questions. It's the only diet that i saw results with in such a small amount of time minus the exercise. All the food is just that "food" no packages or shakes just a selection of normal foods which you prepare and lots of water.
Like Moi said it is restrictive....so don't expect to go out to restaurants or coffee shops, it is by no means a flexible plan, but that is a small price to pay at the end of the day....the program finishes with something called refeed which is a plan that increases and introduces different foods.
Hope this helps towards making your decision.
Sam

I just asked on my "diary" post about dr.Cohen really existing and he really does write all the diets!
I have to tell you - I am happy with the diet. Yes, it is very strickt, no room for less or more, 1 gram up or down...but it is worth it!
I have tried so many diets, have seen many doctors regarding my hormones and I feel really good now!
When I sent my application I got the answer the next day - you get the instructions about what kind of lab test you need - when you send the lab results - they say they need 5 business days to send you the diet...mine came in 3 days. I was lucky . They also gave me 2 days to get ready for the diet - read it carefully and buy all the food (which is really not much). Mostly I got rid of everything else in my kitchen and took it to my mom.
Good luck and don't give up! If you wont feel good in three days - really, stay strong - I almost gave up, but now I am really happy I didn't! It is worth it!
