Smile New to forum and investigating Cohens

Hi, I'm Dwali and am absolutely rapt to found such a motivational and honest web site. I have been thinking about giving Cohen's a go-which is how l found this site. Like you all probaly would have been at some stage - I am very, very nervous and excited about the posibility of getting myself back on track with my weight and all the issues that come with being overweight. I am a bit nervous with the price and do you think it is worth the cost? Has anyone done this and maintained their goal weight without living in such a regimented routine? Has anyone compared plans and found that they are not different?
At the refeeding stage is bread and alcohol allowed? I live in the tropics and drinking is a very social activity!! My vices are bread, chocolate and cider on the weekend. My desire to lose weight and like myself again certainly override eating chocolate but l couldn't give it up forever! I have read so much positive about all those here doing Cohens that l would like to commit to it.
I firmly believe that this forum will help when cravings hit. Do you find you crave a lot on Cohans? Once you pay and get your blood test done, does it take long to receive your eating plan?
Congratulations to all those amazing and inspirational people who are working hard to achieve their personal goals to achieve health and happiness!! Hopefully soon l will be one of you trim and terrific winners!

Hi Dwali & welcome to the forum. I am not quite at re-feed but have read lots of posts from people who have completed it & are at goal weight. I do know that re-feed, which is just the final stage of the program does include alcohol & bread. I have been on the program since January '07 & can only tell you what it has meant to me personally.
I was obese (>36kg over-weight), in a size 22 or 24, & like you, loved my bread, cider, chocolate & food in general. I am now in a size 14.
I have learned from others & am sure that sticking rigidly to the program is very important so that you do not have cravings & do not lose motivation.
I do not have any cravings at all. I still find that the most remarkable aspect of the program. This is a first for me. I know that everything will be there & available when I'm at goal weight but I'm not in a hurry. I am very confident that I will get there & will keep this weight off.
After goal weight is acheived & re-feed is finished, Cohen's gives us basic guidelines, hints & tips to maintain your weight. As to the price of the program- I have wasted a small fortune in my lifetime(I'm 54) on various diets & this is the first "diet" (I don't call it a diet as it really is a lifestyle change for me) that is preparing me for the rest of my life & is teaching me the skills to remain healthy & slim.
Sorry to go on so much but I just love the program & think it's worth every cent. Being prepared & sticking to the program, I think are the main keys to success. Hope this is helpful to you, cheers, Cate.

Hi Dwali,

I'm a newbie here. I will have been on the program for 3 weeks this Thursday and I have lost just under 8kg. I'm thrilled with the results.

It is a bit hard at first, but its mainly just getting yourself in to a routine and to be organised. I find if all the healthy food is there in your fridge to go you have no reason to deviate from the program.

It took me a while to decide to start the program, but I had to be in the right mindset to fully emerge myself into my new healthy lifestyle. So I have been a bit hermit...a self inflicted one. It me get into a routine. I was lucky I didn't get any withdrawal syptoms...I'm not a big coffee drinker and don't drink much alcohol.

I went out for food for the first time on the weekend and it was ok, just have to be a bit picky when you order, most places are happy to be flexable.

I don't crave food as such....I think about it, but its amazing how quickly you can build up a strong will power and say no.

I think you would love the program. I have a lot of weight to lose, so I have given myself 6 months fully dedicated to the program and see how I feel and look then....I have just bought myself goal jeans....I lurrrvvee these jeans...can't wait till I fit into them.

Hi and Welcome
You will love this programme. Once you you get organised with your food and get in a routine you will find not only will you lose the weight but you will begin to feel healthier and with myself I felt the benefits astonishing I just felt so well my headaches disappeared and my skin glowed and everything tended to function better. I could go on and on about it - but after the intial 3 days of detox that's when you will notice the changes, infact I wasn't irritable or tired and I wasn't hungry.
Since I have finished Cohen's I find that when I do eat certain non Cohen foods it makes me feel bloated, tired and irritable, which is what I feel at the moment.
So get excited and welcome aboard you will be a healthy & slimmer person in no time.
Sam

Hey Dwali,

You must be very excited about getting your program!! I know I was, it was all I could think about - starting my journey to being a skinny girl....well average is more than fine by me.

Well I am coming into my 4th week and as of this morning I have lost justs over 9 kgs...woo hoo....only thing is I lost hardly anything last week and I am due my period in the next day or so....just before my official weigh in at the clinic....so that won't help, but hey my lovely new jeans are now getting baggy ....oh well I will need a new pair soon.

Keep in touch with us. Oh by the way I didn't getting moody or anything when I started my program. I feel so much better now, not as tired and lethargic etc...good skin...all bonuses.

Lukey

Dwali- That's good news. I was hungry the first week but every time I felt hungry I had a drink of water. I often pop into the forum when I am hungry & trying to make time pass until my next meal-time. I am quite hungry this week but am trying to ignore it as I don't want to start re-feed until I am at goal weight. All the best with the program.I look forward to hearing how you go, cheers, Cate.

Hi and thanks for the support.
I have written a weekly menu plan based on what l can eat (oh no! no broccoli, my favouite!) and will double check with the clinic that there is nothing that l have overloooked and then start hopefully Thursday or Friday so that while l am initially adjusting l won't be at work all the time.
I was reading another post in here about people who don't tell others that they are on Cohens, I am one of these also. I want to get it right for myself without any other pressure. Obviously my husband willl know and my teenage son will be told that l am detoxing. And everyone here! This will be my support group! Thanks for all the advice already!

I've posted my question in several places, but here is another place to pose. Cohens sounds too good to be true. It looks difficult, but well worth it. Here's my question: I want to loose about 25 pounds. Is Cohens the answer, or is it for people looking to loose a more significant amount of weight? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, I think if you have the determination and focus, then Cohen's will be the most effective and fastest (in a healthy way) to lose what you want to lose. I was a bit concerned about the rapid weight loss in terms of health but all these successful people can't be wrong. All the best with whatever method you choose. Dwali

Hi, Just thought l'd let you all know that l started Cohens 7/7/07 and l think l wiil start a diary since l find them so inspirational. I will check out how to set one up later as l am off to work shortly. I found day 1 okay although l spent the day looking at the clock- "is it food time yet?!" but only felt hungry between lunch and dinner. I will continue this after l set up a diary. Take care everyone and stay vibrant! dwali

Dwali, You could continue on with this as your diary or start a new thread, in the same way you created this one. Name it "Dwali's......(Diary?)" or whatever you like, but so that it is obviously your diary. It has really motivated me typing in my diary & has probably stopped me from "boring the pants off" my family & friends! Once the fat starts melting off you it's hard not to sound like a Cohen's fanatic! I look forward to following your progress! Cheers, Cate.

Just an FYI- I am saving my nickels and dimes until i have enough "extra" money to start. I am so pumped, I'm sure it will happen sooner than later. My goal is to send in bloodwork by August 15. (I want to have a family portrait done before Christmas, but I really want to be thinner before that happens.)
