Crayfish/Lobster & Crab versus weighing

Hiya Gals, I have been wanting to try crayfish and crab but wondering how I am going to weigh it fresh. As far as I am aware it very hard to get the meat out before it's been cooked.
Has anyone had these and what did you do?

Hi Moi

I used the canned crab not the fresh and used that weight. As for lobster I didn't try this it is always so expensive....I'm sure someone here can help you if not you may need to check in with your clinic.

Sam

Crabmeat

Hi,
I was speaking to my consultant today and she said try to avoid canned crabmeat as you are not really sure how its been processed. But on the odd occasion you can use fresh cooked crab meat or crayfish just weigh it 30g less. I have decided to enjoy some crayfish over easter. If i cannot indulge in chocolate ( mmmm chocolate) I will lash out and enjoy some cray. Tinned tuna is ok as long as its in springwater or brine and no flavours.

Kisses
Tara

Hi,
I went to the clinic today and asked the question about
seafood because I just love it, apparently u can have it
if you know that it is freshly boiled you can weigh it and
enjoy I would weigh a little less so you don't go over
your allowance.
Happy Easter

Yeah , 30g less does seem a lot. for me that would mean if it was meal 2 I would have only 90g. But if it was meal 3 I could only have 60g. I made Prawn balls tonight. minced up prawns, and fresh corriander salt pepper and fresh chilli rolled them up and rolled them in finely crushed salada. Put them in the pan. It had taken so long I doubt I will bother again I love just stirfrying prawns and adding to a salad.
Anyway
Kisses

k well I did a bit of research and I cooked 55g of prawns and then weighed it. 53g.
So I can't see how you would have to take 30g off.
I bought 2 swimmer crabs and took the meat off plus I added a few prawns. Sill me should have made the prawns into munched up balls like you said Tara.
I also couldn't buy any fish for myself as weveryone was going bersurk on fish today for obvious reasons.
I also found out that flathead is a no no....booger.

My fav ocean fish is snapper which luckily is on the list. But I love flat head tail, deep fried in a beer batter. Oh well it will be a while before I induldge in those . My fav. river fish is Murray cod but its been years since I have eaten any. I also didnt want to go near a supermarket today so it will be frozen snapper for me tomorrow and prawns for tea. I will try to get to a crayfish on sat to enjoy my small portion. If your test only subtracted a few grams and not 30g like Marlene my consultant said I am really confused. Does anyone else have any ideas?

My fish jont didn't have snapper either. That would have been nice.
Is your consultant Marlene from Geelong Tara? Karen was going to ask her about seafood calculations as she knew about it. But we forgot to ask her.

yep Marlene from Geelong office. I wrote it down when I asked and asked her to clarify it a few times just to make sure.

Ok, I was thinking about this and want to get to the bottom of it. If we have canned tuna, we weigh it after it's drained and it's pre-cooked. As far as I am aware we don't subtract any weight.

Food for thought......lmao
