Vicky's Journey

Hi Everyone!

I started my Cohens adventure about 3.5 weeks ago. I am in the zone and really looking forward to losing heaps of weight. I started my journey at 125.8 kilo and after years of trying so many things am thrilled to have discovered Cohens. I really feel like its going to change my life.

I lost 2.9 kilo in the first four days and was thrilled. Unfortunately I had to go away 10 days into my diet and put on 1.9 kilo while away. Since last Monday I have been back on it and have been very strict with everything. So far I have lost 6.7 kilo, and feeling great (my pants are feeling lose!)

I have inspired my one of sisters and her mother in law to do it also.

I have done the whole gym thing and lost a bit of weight, but couldn't maintain it. I feel like it must be a hormone thing with me. I watched what I ate and walked most days, but still couldn't shift the weight. My family are all big. My sister had gastric bypass surgery 18 months ago and is going well. I am glad that she did what she had to do, but as I am not as big as she was am thrilled to discover Cohens. No surgery for me!!!

I just wanted to say hi and tell you a bit about me. I look forward to losing this weight. Everyone is so inspiring!

Hi Vicky & welcome to the forum. It's great at the moment. You chose a good time to join. I, too, considered a gastric bypass. Eeww. I'm so glad I didn't! Cohen's is for me. All the best with your journey & good for you starting a diary as well. I found it to be very therapeutic. Cheers, Cate

Hi Vicky,

Welcome. cate is right, you've chosen a great time to start. There are a few of us now just starting up so we can journey down together. 6.7kgs is fantastic weight loss (I see it has jumped to 7.3, even better!!). Well done. In no time at all you will be flying down through the sizes and before you know it you'll be nearing your goal.
I too considered gastric bypass, but my niece works in the gastro ward in a large hospital and said they see so many complications from it that it is a bit of a risk, but I'm sure there are heaps of success stories too.

Good luck and take care
Beck

Thanks rjm for you kind words.

Yep, the weight is moving again. I feel like last week took forever and the weight didnt move much, but when I look back at the overall week it was right on schedule. I guess my body was adjusting itself, ready to go again.

I am a bit of a sneak with the scales. Seem to be addicted to jumping on every couple of days. I know that I should wait out the week, but its sooo far away. Who knew that I could learn to love the scales. For years I didn't weigh myself and I guess thats how it all got so out of control.

My younger sister has lost 7 kilos in 11 days so the race is on. Its great to have someone to talk it all over with.

I am loving the cohens journey although I am finding it a bit anti-social. I have worked out that I am a social eater. Not an emotional eater like my sister who had the bypass. I am a single gal living alone and thats how I catch up with people. I am learning that I can still see my friends and it doesn't always have to be about the food!

Have a great week everyone.

Hi Vicky- 8.2kg is excellent! Well done. I hope you're measuring each week so you will see a loss of some sort each week, regardless of what the scales tell you! It might do your head in otherwise! Cheers for now. I'm off to soak in the bath as I'm starting to seize up after my very active day & I can't eat there! Cheers, Cate

Welcome Vicky

You are doing so well already Cohens is a wonderful program and you will see the results if you stick to the plan. It was the best program for me and many others.
You may want to read through Kannadew's diary she has recently completed her program and lost 50+kilos there are photo's to preview as well.
Once again welcome and goodluck with the program.
Sam

Hi Everyone

The weight loss is still going well. Its fun to come here and change my ticker each time.

Cate, I have not measured myself at all. Is it too late to start?

I have not known myself at this weight. 12 years ago I was under 100 kilo and after lots of life changes the next time I weighed myself I was 133.5 kilos. I moved home and wacked on all the weight. Mums cooking I guess. So to be down to 116.4k is exciting. I know fancy being excited about still being so much over weight, but I know that I will never, ever be in the 120's or 130's again.

I cant believe that I will be thin by the time that I finally finish. It all seems so sureal. I dont feel thinner, but my clothes tell me otherwise. I have been so big for such a very long time that I think its going to take ages for my brain to catch up with my body.

I have been sticking to it 10000%. I have not strayed at all. The other night I dreamt that I was buying a salad roll and was so tempted to eat it but knew that I couldn't. I giggled to myself when I woke up. Fancy, of all the things to dream about food wise, I pick a salad roll. Not chocolate, hot chips, or pavalova, but a salad roll. How Naughty!!!

Well everyone, thanks for all the good wishes. Its back to work for me.

Vicky

Vicky- It's never too late to start measuring. Try to measure in the same place each time. I always measure looking in the mirror- top of one arm(pick a freckle or something)bust, waist, hips(fattest part incl bum) top of one thigh (same-pick a freckle or mole or something). I wish I had also measured my ankles & wrists because boy did they shrink.I also can now wear so many more shoes. My feet used to be so fat! Now I can say they're big sure, but slender(size 11). My fingers have shrunk & I can now wear rings I hadn't worn for decades! I loved your dream. That's funny. The food I love the most now is yoghurt. I couldn't live without it. Once upon a time it was bread. Cheers, Cate

Hi Everyone,

Its been a while since my last entry. Work has been so hectic, its hard to get on and check the boards. I have lost over the 10 kilo mark and it feels great! Am six weeks into it and still love it. I am not finding it as hard as I thought.

My sister is going well, she is almost at the 10 kilo mark herself.

Can anyone help with this dilema? I am going to Thailand in October and its about the six month mark for me and my plan will expire. I wont have reached my goal weight and I dont think they will let me refeed. This is a once in a life time opportunity for me to go and I am not going to Thailand and doing the Cohens diet. I refuse

If I go longer than six months I have been told that I have to pay by the month. If I dont pay by the month does this mean that I will be cut off and wont ever get the refeed? The lady I spoke to at Cohens said not to worry, but to cross that bridge when I get there. Any thoughts?

Hi Victoria. Welcome to the Cohens family. How did you go yesterday? Are you inspired?

Well that it for today. Good luck everyone in your journeys.

Till next time

Vicky

Hi Vicky,
I wrote you a long reply earlier and then lost it, so lets try again.
When I completed Cohens last time, we were given 12 months on the contract. 6 months seems a bit stingy!! Anyway after saying that, I did lose 35kgs in 4 months so it is possible that you could lose close to 50 kgs in 6 months. We were going to QLD for a holiday and so my consultant ordered my refeed early for me so I could complete it before we went away. I have since been told that this was the wrong thing to do and that I should have just gone off Cohens while away and then gone back on when we got home and completed refeed at the correct time. I don't know if this is right or not. If I was you, I would just explain to your consultant and ask her what she would advise you to do. They are the ones that are being paid to help you and she should be able to give you some advise or even ask Dr Cohen what he suggests.
Sorry I haven't been much help.
Good luck

Beck

Thanks Bec for your advice. Its all a bit tricky really.

I have been reading Cates journey regarding her refeeding and I found it very informative. I have not been told anything about the refeed, and was interested to know what it was all about and how it worked. So thanks Cate!!!!

I lost 1.7k this last week. It was a great result and put me at 113.9k. Very exciting. I missed to 4's altogether. I weighed myself at the end of the week, which was new for me as it has been one of the first things that I do in the morning, was to race and weigh myself.

I have decided to wait until the end of each week and get a good surprise. I have to drum it into my head that food and weight should not be an "issue" its eating for nourishment sake and nothing else. Not comfort, entertainment, or an excuse to get together with friends. Its weird not lunching with friends as that was a big part of my life. I miss it like crazy, but know that when the time comes that I can go out, it will be at a lot healthier places to eat.

One of the cafes around here sell Cohen lunches. Not sure what its all about, but a few friends who know I am doing it have mentioned it. Wonder if I could trust someone to measure right. All I need is someone to be daydreaming and stuff up the weights. Better not risk it.

It was mums birthday on Friday and as my sister and I are both on Cohens and my middle sister has had gastric by-pass, it was weird not going out for a huge dinner and cake celebration. Think she was a bit miffed, but we suggested her and dad going out for a romantic dinner instead. Dad was stoked!

On Friday nights me and the girls go out to the local footy club for dinner. Well I used to eat there. Now i eat before I go and just buy a drink (sprite zero). I am full from dinner, so its not so bad to resist nicking a chip of someones plate. I love hot chips.

Anyway, enough rambling. Until next time, keep up the great work everyone.

Vicky

Hi Vicky,
Refeed is fairly easy (but quite fiddly)process. You probably read it in Cates diary, but I'll tell you just in case you missed anything. All you do on refeed is re introduce all the foods that have been eliminated and increase the food quantities slowly so your body gets used to processing larger quantities and so your body also gets used to processing the eliminated foods again. You gradually introduce the food (ie day 1 an extra 30g of protein and an extra 30g of veges) and it increases to about an extra 80g og protein and an extra 80g of veges and they also increase the number of crackers and then you can trade some crackers for bread and you can trade some of your protein for milk or a bit of alcohol. They whole process is quite involved and you usually need to shop every day as it says to reintroduce as many foods as possible during refeed so your body is able to cope when you finish.
The reason that people don't really go into explaining refeed is because it is a bit of a hassle to explain if you don't have the program in front of you.
The main thing is that it does work and you are also given "Life After" guidelines which includes very basic guidelines (ie only have carbs at one meal a day and never at breakfast, have chocolate no more than twice a week, and if you are going to have dessert eat it within an hour of your meal.)
It is a great program and it sounds like you are right in the zone and will be receiving your own refeed and life after in no time at all.
Awesome weight loss. Take care.
Beck

Hi Everyone

Just in updating my ticker. Down to 111.4k now. Not long until I am under 110kg. The weight is moving slower than I would like, but still very grateful for every lose.

Last week was a loss of 1.3k which is ok, but it would be nice for a bigger number this week. At this stage I will be lucky to lose 5k for the month.

Not giving up though. My cohens has just become a way of life now. Maybe I need to start exercising to shift it a bit quicker. I am going away in October and would like to be a lot lighter.

I used to walk three times a week and the last few weeks I have not had the time and when I do the weather is crap. Maybe thats why its slowed right down. I have to keep remembering the people on the biggest loser and after all their hard work each week some were lucky to lose a kilo.

I went to a Cohens meeting last week. They came over to our town and it was good to chat to people on Cohens. All of the people there were clients and it was up to us if we wanted to talk about it or not. It was good to hear what other people were up to. One guy that came said he has lost over 70 kilo with another 50 to go. But he still has a pasty each week at the footy. Men are so lucky to be able to drop the weight so quickly.

Any way, back to work.

Bye for now.

Vicky
