Rep Power: 3 | | | Is mango stopping my skin from clearing up? I have noticed that since being on Cohen's, I feel so damn good! Even my skin has really improved... except for the skin on my upper arms. I still have plenty of red dots. Yuck! Do you think that's caused by my daily mango habit? I mean, mango would have to be the only food with sugar that's in my diet now.
Just wondering if anyone else has worried that mango is holding them back from achieving perfect skin?
Thanks |

It's possible that you have keritosis pilaris. It's a skin condition that occurs mostly on arms and legs and mostly in women. It's where extra keratin in the skin becomes trapped in a follicle and forms a small round bump. On some people the bumps are reddish and on some people they can be pale or white. Keratosis can't be cured, but you can help alleviate the bumps by exfoliating regularly and moisturizing the area.
If you have a particularly bad case or yours is itchy or spreading, you can get creams that have salicylic acid in them to help control the buildup of keratin in the skin and to help prevent the bumps from forming.
It's really really really common and most people who have it don't know they have it. Most people think it's just rough skin or a little acne. I had mine diagnosed about 5 years ago - I have it mostly on my arms. |

Rep Power: 59 | | | I doubt it very much after doing a Google on mango allergy. It sounds like any allergic reaction would most likely come from the skin ie the mango skin coming into contact with the tops of your arms. I haven't heard of anyone having an allergic reaction to eating mangoes. Heaven forbid!! I am allergic to capsicums (Bell Peppers) but the allergy comes out by making the soles of my feet burn. It feels like I'm walking on hot coals. Weird. I have had a naturopath say that is how the toxins come out of our bodies. Try avoiding capsicum when you eat out. It's in so many things now that it is cheaper.
I am just starting to check out your website & want to give it much more time than I have at the present. I will talk about it later in the week.
I have visitors coming tomorrow & have a lot of housework I feel I should do. I have been getting around the house cleaning but saying to myself..."They like me because of who I am not because I am some domestic goddess." A girl has a certain standard though & old habits do die hard. I don't want them thinking I am an absolute pig!
Better go vacuum as I have stirred up lots of dust & the cobwebs that I have said I have been cultivating to catch flies are all over the floor. Not a pretty sight.
I hope for your sake it's not a mango allergy but remove the skin totally after washing it with soap & water was the recommendation online. Cheers for now, Cate. |

thanks for your responses.
I did actually have an allergic reaction to mangoes.
My lips got very very itchy and then went cardboard dry.
But I kept eating mangoes and the itch eventually
went away. Gotta love the good ole immune system.
I know I have that rash on my arms. And it is what you called it.
But i actually saw a nutritionist a few years ago and she took me
off all sugar - no fruit, no junk, no sugary drinks. Nada.
And the rash on my arms completely went away. I thought Cohen's would do the same as there's so little sugar. But so far
my arms haven't improved.
Ah well, I think i'm gonna have to give up the mangoes if i want to see an improvement. |

| That's not an allergic reation, I don't think.
Mangoes contain fruit acids and if you eat too much, or if you wind up with bits of mango skin, you'll get that burning itching feeling. Mangos (and pineapples and papaya) contain acids and enzymes that cause that effect. Those fruits (and others) are often used in facial and skin treatments to create an exfoliating action. For people with sensitive skin, that can result in swelling, itching, stinging, and other symptoms.
If you really think you're having an allergic reaction to something, for god's sake stop eating it. It doesn't take much for an allergic reaction to go from a minor itching to full on anaphylatic-shock in a matter of seconds. Don't risk your life that way. |
