I guess not, but does anyone see the issue with Cohen's?

You're basically starving yourself, and I have yet to find someone who has completed it and kept the weight off for two years or more.

how many

people do you know who have done cohen's?
i don't get the impression that a lot of people put the weight back on.
also, there's evidence that a low calorie diet is the better way to live...yes, this low.

the fact that i don't feel hungry at all makes me question your post.

at this stage (week 7.5 into the program), I just don't see how this is true.

Maybe you can elaborate more on your theory so we can properly assess your argument...

From the research i have done on the Internet about this diet, it has a very high success rate of people maintaining the weight!!

There dont seem to be too many people on the forums that have kept it off for 2 years, but i guess this is due to the fact they are no longer dieting they have stopped joining the forum!!!

I think that it is possible to maintain the weight if you are careful! Its down to the person!

Let's Also Be Fair Here

What is the statistic, something like 99% of diets fail? So if even half of all cohen's dieters completely fall of the wagon and gain all their weight back, it's still a bloody successful program comparatively!

I can't seem to find anything on it from an unbiased party. It's pro Cohen's stuff that I find. So I can't see anyone with results that actually stuck.

BigJim, good point! If you maintain right from anything then you will succeed. I mean if you maintain your anorexia then you succeed at starving yourself. Anorexia is actually a bad example because that is a disorder and people can't help but maintain that.

But for normal people don't want to maintain in that way long term. I mean the best part of dieting is to get off the diet right? Something like this if you complete it, and you lose your 150 pounds then even eating crap or good every now and then will make you gain all the weight back and then boom we are yo yo dieters and frustrated thinking that we are never going to lose weight.

Can someone give me a days worth of food on this plan? I read the first posters and OMG was it low! I don't even think it was 700 calories!

Dr. Cohen's 1st Personal Diet

I think what cohens diet basically does is lower insulin levels in your body (which breaks down simple sugars) so that the body can burn fat quicker.

Here is another link I found.. that pointed out some obvious problems with cohens website.

28! You know, the more I read about this. I am pretty damn sure this what my ex brother in law did. I remember him doing bloodwork and getting a diet plan built around it.

It did not work! He is fat. however it could be that he did not follow it right. He never lost any weight.

That is another thing I don't understand. Well actually I do mainly because it is a mental thing and I know exactly why people do it whether they know it or not.

Why that when people post advice for say things that might be out of the norm or might be against something you have heard, or just plain saying you can't have chocolate chips for each meal. That they totally are against that, but then will shell out $300 bucks for this kind of stuff?

yeh.. I don't really understand diets in general. People just want some sort of a miracle answer to their weight problems instead of putting in the hard work and dedication it will take. Cohens is like that program that sends you food .. I think nutrisystem. How are you suppose to learn to eat and be healthy with normal every food and circumstances if you're restricting yourself that much?? I feel like they're setting theirselves up for failure.

You make a good point "doll" I have an adversion of calling you "fatty" =)

I think we have all taught ourselves by now that there is not miracle drug (it used to be so rampant with people asking about this and that when I first started in the forums)

I don't see those questions anymore really because people know now there is no such thing. So people get on this new kick "make my new eating lifestyle easier on me" so now people tell their partner on Sunday evening "I am going to lose weight starting tomorrow" and before they even get those words out of their mouth they are thinking of things they can put into their diets in small amounts so they don't feel deprived.

So now when you tell someone that maybe working the 3 glasses of wine into your calories every night is their problem, they scream "I don't want to deprive myself"

Deprivation to me is the person that is alletgic to peanuts. They can NEVER have it at all or it will KILL them. That is deprivation. You not having three glasses of wine a night but instead one random night you feel freaky so you go to the club and have some drinks, is not deprivation.

Just a quick note about Cohen's all though I am not fueling this discussion as it seems to have a negative slant on it.

I myself have struggled since I was a small child to loose weight. Really nothing has worked for me at all and when I say worked I mean I could go to the gym for 1.5hr's a day 5 day's a week and eat a "healthy, balanced" diet and loose 1kg's or 2kg's in 4 weeks and then nothing. Cohen's is really a last ditch attempt to move weight that cant be moved by other means. I agree if eating a balanced diet and excersising works for you then go ahead and do it as it is more gentle than Cohen's. I think by incorperating "junk" or un-wholesome food into your diet just so you dont feel deprived is NOT the answer. I have learn't that if you want your weight-loss to be sustainable then you need a lifestyle adjustment not just a fix for now and then when you come off the diet you can eat what you like again. NO WAY it just doesn't work like that, well at least not for all the people I have spoken to that Cohen's "work's" for.

I no longer have the desire to feed my body unwholesome, empty calories that cause my insulin to spike and for me to get so hungry that I want to eat whatever I see. I have made a lifestyle adjustment and in saying that realise that these empty type of foods are not what I want anymore. Food sould be viewed more as fuel than something emotive like a treat or a reward. Once you start having a relationship with food like that it becomes dangerous and when you deprive yourself of this treat then it's the only thing you can think about eating all day, everyday. I think to eliminate this from your life and "give it up" like a smoker "quits" his addiction then you will have the most success and it makes the most sense. People who do cohen's are generally doing it as a last resort and it works for just about everyone that does it and follows it 100%.

I can say that it is such a relief to FINALLY find a program that works for me, and yes this program is my miracle pill as nothing else has worked for me. If I have to change my life to maintain my new weight BRING IT ON!!!! I am more than happy to do this as what is more important to me- eating whatever the hell I like OR being emotionally happy, healthy and loving myself???? Hmmmmmm lets see... there is just NO competition there.

I think that this diet is no different to any other diet.
To loose the weight you have to follow it 100% and then once you are done you need to then change your life. You need to start eating and living like a thin person. You need to learn what puts weight on for you and what you can eat more off.

I know people that have never been fat, but they will put weight on over Christmas and while on holidays. Then after they will need to cut back a bit to loose the gain! No one considers these people as YO YO dieters. This is just the norm!!!

Unfortunately the reason other diets haven't worked for me is because i haven't given it 100% and found it too hard and given up. I need to look at why i do this and make changes so that when i loose the weight i dont put it back on!

We need to find i diet that WE can follow, no matter what diet that is!

No over weight person can blame diets for them putting weight on. Its only us that eats the food, and its only us that can limit what we eat!!

You know how often someone in our family or someone we thought was a good friend tries to sabotage our decision to take control of our health & seem happy if you then eat some crap as if it's "Mission accomplished." I really don't understand why anyone would want to do this or why others would seem to get so angry & aggressive over what others choose to do. We all have a choice in what we do. Ours is to do Cohen's. We are not everywhere else in the forum pushing Cohen's & being negative towards what everyone else chooses to do. I think reacting to this attack is only fuelling the fire. It's just not worth the effort.
Most people who lose weight & maintain their weight-loss do not still hang around weight-loss forums. That is why you don't hear from them. They are successful. I know lots of people who have done Cohen's & are still slim. I am still here because I promised that I would stay & provide support & I enjoy the friendships & the fact that I am able to help & encourage others.
Two years down the track after doing Cohen's & losing 36kgs in 28 weeks I am still within 3kgs of my goal weight. I am fitter & healthier than I have been since my teens. I am 56 years old. I have seen a nutritionist who is very happy with what I am eating & says she no longer needs to see me. I see an exercise physiologist & have an exercise program tailored for me & am very active. Seeing these people was my choice, to be certain that I am doing the right thing, just as doing Cohen's & taking control of my health & well-being was my decision & my choice. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I may have got there some other way but I'm not so sure that I would have learned so much along the way. I'm very happy with my choices & my life. Cheers, Cate
