LF - The problem here is that we are not dealing with the human form as evolution had intended it - we are overweight and many of us obese. My husband is a fitness trainer and was naturally skeptical when I told him no exercise - until he read and understood the science behind the plan and also the fact that it is for a short period of time - I go to the same consultant as Di78 and she encouraged me to think of the activities that I plan to do when I am not carrying my excess weight - and I dare say that they will be a pleasure when I don't have the equivilant of my 7 year old hanging on my body.

Please don't discourage people from listening to their consultants advice - they are the experts.

My advice to anyone starting is simple - You have paid lots of money for the research and expertise of the cohens plan - if it is not on plan - don't do it. I have followed 100% and have seen the best results of any diet I have attempted. There is plenty of time for exercise when you have finished and lots of cute outfits we will be able to wear while doing it......
Don't read too much into the plan - just follow it.
I really disagree, humans should be active, we should move our bodies part of the day when possible, I am not talking about punishing "jogging" type exercise I am talking about moderate activities like walking or riding a bike to the shops rather than a car, the only exception is that if you are unwell and that would mean that a Dr says for you to be inactive for a certain time, not a non-professional Cohen "consultant" who is not a licensed medico, I dont doubt they have your best interest at heart. The plans says that you may need to stop strenous exercise during the diet, this is reasonable, nor in particular should somone take up a heavy exercise program during the diet; However I honestly believe NO HEALTHY PERSON SHOULD STOP BEING ACTIVE, well thats my opinion anyway.

I know that what I am saying may be misinterpreted as if I am recommend extreme sports like mountain biking to the top of mountains, ultra marathon training , which I am not I am just saying unless you are unwell, keep active, be active, do activities, simple as that.

If you are a mother running after young kids I dare say that is enough keeping active; it's a mini-marathon each day.

Less Fatty - there are two issues which concern me in your reply

1/ You say that a dr needs to make recommendations and that our "consultants" are not medico - do you realise they are acting on behalf of DR Cohen. It concerns me that reading your posts you seem to have little confidence in the consultants and I wouldn't like to see new people to the forum think of them in this way. Do you have a consultant on the internet programme?? I can assure you that my consultant is well trained and knowledgeable in the program and has completed the program herself.

2/ We are NOT healthy people - we are overweight - I am not suggesting you become a couch potato - simply not starting an exercise programme.

my experience

hi all,

i guess we have very differing opinions on this point. Before cohens is was 95 kg approx and fit-really fit.
I LOVE EXERCISE and although i feel it is not essential to weight loss i feel it is absolutely essential to good health.
Currently is exercise for at least 1 hour a day and then at least 2hours on each day of the weekend. I mix it up between running, boxing, weights and POWER YOGA
I also do very long cross country bike rides on weekends.i burn about 2x more than i eat when i ride and about 1/2 to a 1/3 day to day. I'm still losing and full of beans

To me ,as an individual, its not good enough to be skinny. I feel that it is just as dangerous to be skinny and unfit as it is to be fat and unfit.

However,

i do not judge those who aren't active. This is MY way of making myself the healthiest i can be . As long as you are always being the BEST that you can be to your body(no short cuts and no excuses) then you have nothing to feel bad or guilty about.

Everyones journey is different and valid

Take care and be good and true to yourselves

Re: Netski

Hello netski!
ive noticed your tciker just today and congratulations!only 4 more kg for you woo hoo!

i have a quick question in regards to your 'Life after cohens'.

Could you please give me a run down of a typcial 'Day in the life-Food wise' of the things you ate?

im wondering whether it differs considering the amount of exercise a person does.
and whether your and chelseas answers will be similar or different!

the reason im asking is i plan to return to my gym after refeed and plan to be doing exersise 4-5 times a week and wonder what my food intake willl consist of!

PSi78 you are seriously SO nice! yes you can call me that hehe i dont mind but honey when i look at your photos i am truly and utterly inspired.
i am being sincere when i say that it really is your photos that have helped me stay on the bandwagon!
even though im not married and no children (im only 20!hehe) i read your posts and really understand you!
YOU are why probably a good amount of us keep going!

Happy losing everyone xx

Re: Netski (also)

Hi Netski

Congratulations on your achievements so far - fantastic and very inspirational!

I just had a quick question with regard to you returning to the program for your last 6kg. Did you need to sign up again (and pay) or are you just following your previous eating plan? Also, are you going to include a re-feed period as well?

Thanks very much.
Monz

PS - Thanks everyone for your views and advice on the exercise on the program

Life after cohens and food

Hey guys,

Well firstlyto answer some questions, no i didn't have to pay again-in actual fact i am still in contract time. I lost my weight quite quickly and with very predictable and regular weeks. I did refeed at 64 because i was studiply hungry and given my very active lifestyle my consultant suggested i go about it that way even though i was 2kg away from my ideal weight. Since september last year i have kept stable with only 1kg fluctuations which was monitored and controlled.
I'm following my previous program and as recommended i'll be doing the refeed once more too. Any period on cohens longer than 2 weeks needs to be done with a subsquent refeed

The portions given on at the end of the refeed you end up eating more than 2 times what you have now- its a huge amount and more than enough to accomodate an active lifestyle. As i've mentioned before i exercise every day and although i have felt light headed in the past- i did before i was on cohens because i tend to push myself quite hard

I've decided to bet to the bottom end of my weight range purely for vanity reasons.

I found keeping my weight low easy - i just remind myself of how happy i am in my size 8's and 10's. I have also chosen a gluten free and carb free lifestyle for myself and my husband is the same we find that we feel better with out it.

I ate cohens most day(not now while i'm back on the program in on it 100%)and follow the guidelines which i've posted on another post- it's titled guide lines

hope this helps

Hi Netski

How long is your contract for and who choose's the contract time.
I was told intially by a consultant from another clinic that it was a 12 week contract after that period if you had not lost your weight you would need to negotiate with your consultant.

My consultant reckons I should be at my ideal weight within 12 weeks, so what about those who have more to lose or I am not at my ideal weight by then.

Another question for you if you (god forebid ) put on the weight again can you still use the same programme or do you have pay and join again and have new blood test etc etc?

Sorry to put this on you but you have been their before and us newbies are still learning.

Thanks

Sam

Everyone's contract is different depending on how much weight you need to loose and i imagine your blood test results too.Its determined by Dr. Cohen. I'm pretty sure if you havnt deviated but you are just a slow loser then you can still continue with the prgam . Your consultant wont leave you high and dry

If heaven forbid you put on weight down the track they recommend you need new blood work and a new program. As you blood chemisrty can change..

The idea is that you lose your weight, do the refeed and then stick to the guidlines to maintain your weight( i've posted those guidelines on a thread called guide lines)
And then never ever ever ever ever need to diet again. you are doing great!!! Keep up the brillaint work
