Surgery and Cohens

I started Cohens 2 weeks ago.

At the 5 week point I need to have surgery and have been told that I will have to go off the program for perhaps 6 weeks by the consultant.

Has anyone had experience with this? I would rather not have to stop.

FBB: follow the advice of your consultant. If you are concerned about breaking it dont...there is probably a solid reason (did you ask them why they recommended putting it on hold?)

Perhaps just stick to the food groups of the program, but don't weigh anything. Keep up the water as that will help you heal and feel better sooner. Take it easy and just think of getting well and healing.

Goodluck!

Hey FBB, me too!
I found out on the day that I picked up my program (last Friday) that I need surgery next Monday. It wasn't supposed to be scheduled for at least four months. So, my consultant told me that I need to start the program, even though I would only be on it for one week. Then I need to stop because the low kilojoules aren't enough for your body to recover from surgery. The consultant said the same thing as Dreamer, she suggested sticking with the allowed foods, but don't measure them. I was told that it depends on the kind of surgery and how well you recover as to how long you need to stay off the program. Although there doesn't seem to be a defined time off she mentioned 4-6 weeks as appropriate. She also told me that I will still need to have the 4 week blood test, even though it will obviously show that I am not sticking to the plan.

Good luck with the next few week, and I hope you have a fast recovery.
Kristi
