I finally found some in a local shop and although it is on my permitted list, there is nothing to say how to measure it. The outside is really hard and you cant eat it, but it weighs alot, so maybe you measure after cooking?

read your 'vegetable list' , there should be a little dash nxt to gem squash that says something about weighing after cooking

so yes! weigh after cooking! i only remember my mum steaming it and it kinda turning out like mashed potato after?

I cooked it for my little boy last night and it looked really yummy, like pumpkin, so I will be giving it a go tonight...

Hi! I haven't been lucky enough to find gem squash in my travels, but I did find this little blurb of info on how to cook them.

Gem squash
One of the smallest members of the squash family, gem squashes are about the size of an onion. They are dark green in colour and are just the right size for stuffing.
Uses: Stuff whole gem squash with chopped vegetables and cooked rice. Or quarter and roast with thyme and serve with pork or slice and grill with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.
To prepare: Wash and remove the top and deseed. Leave whole or slice or quarter - gem squash do not need to be peeled.
To cook: Boil whole, prepared squash for 20-30 minutes or until tender. Bake stuffed squash for 1 hour at 200°C, gas mark 6 or until tender. Roast sliced gem squash for 30-40 minutes at 200°C, gas mark 6, drizzled with olive oil and thyme

You could replace the rice suggestion with grated cauliflower, and the grilled suggestion would be interesting to stry with a little sprite zero pasted on and cinnamon instead of the butter & brown sugar...

thanks for the compliment!ive got my 12 week weigh in nxt friday so hopefully i will see a good number and i can move my ticker close to that damn pot of gold hehe wow i just noticed your ticker your doing VERY nicely too how long has it taken you to lose 12 ? do you change your ticker often?

im hoping to be finished cohens by easter so i can finally have some much needed chocolate medicine - so far i havent deviated through chrissy and new year so well see how it turns out yah :P

let us know how the squash went - you should post a recipe on the website when your done!im sure alot of other cohenites will be thankful as a lot of us see that gem squash as a black hole on our list
