I'm no sandbagger.....Maybe a potato bagger....but definately not a sandbagger....Listen just because I haven't lost any weight yet (looking around shadily) doesn't mean someone can't lose 50lbs in the last week of our little competition....

And Irishmen are not touchy....we're touchy feely

Irish Green Eyes?? There's only room for one Irishman in this post....It it be me laddy....That's it....we must settle this at dawn....I challenge you to a duel....Choice of weapon....The mighty potato....be forewarned....I use the mighty Maine Potato....Known for there ohhh so delicious skin....Damn it again....Now I want another potato....Anyway I'm not sure if it will work for you my Irish bretheren but here is what I do: First I did a caloric assesment, also know as your Adjusted Metabolic Rate (AMR).(Physics Diet - How many calories does my body burn?) this is a good site. It tells you how many calories you can burn in a day based upon your activity level. From there you figure how many pounds you want to lose and in what time frame. Since (theoretically) your body needs to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound, you work the numbers from there. For example, you want to lose 40lbs in 4 months (10lbs a month for the mathematically challenged) you would have to burn 35,000 calories (3,500 calories to lose a pound multiplied by 10lbs). Now it seems like alot but it really isn't, here's why.
If your AMR is ohhhhh 2535 (it's uhhhh not mine, it's a friends) you could theoretically reduce your caloric intake by 300 calories a day and lose the weight. More realistically you want to combine both diet and excercise to build lean muscle. Increased activity (and lean muscle) will increase your AMR which will allow you to increase your dietary consumption. The best bet is to become adjusted to a diet where you eat 6x a day (yes I said 6) but you want smaller portions. Smaller portions allows your body to increase your metabolic rate. Also try to eat foods that make you feel full. I eat enormous salads with delicous tuna fish. for dinner I will have a pound to a pound in a half of chicken breasts. It's important to keep your protein consumption high during weight loss and increased physical activity to ensure there is no significant depletion of lean muscle mass (or so I heard).

Either that or you could have just gained some muscle. I'm a big man who loves the gym. I've often found that my scale will increase after awhile, but what I failed to notice is the fact that my muscle growth has increased dramatically.

Hope this helps....

God Bless The Irish and The Red Sox....Yankees still suck

Cool I wanna be cool too!

Hi, I am Krista and I am slow LOL, well I mean, it only took me over a week to figure out how to find all the forums around here But I found this one and laughed the entire way through it... so I thought I'd jump in How is the weight loss going for everyone? I started a diary but that's about all I have done around here. And I feel like I am just talking to myself all the time. But it does help keep me on track I've Lost 4 pounds so far just eating less and using the Elliptical for 20 mins a day - 5 days a week. Sounds so easy to just type it like that but you know as well as I do IT IS NOT!!! Anyway... Nice meeting you all, and thanks for the laughs!
