the fat bastard is here and needs help

as you can see in the signature,im in horrible shape because i never cared to go a gym or none of that stuff

i eat whatever i want,smoke cigarettes (and marijuana),watch alot of tv,etc

its currently snow all over outside so im not gonna begin today, but starting on monday,so im gonna binge like the fat bastard i am 1 last weekend before i start to hit the gym and try to get in shape on monday

im 20 years old, about 5'9' and probably 300 lbs(i always seem to lose those damn scales)

what triggered my need to get in shape was seeing my cousin (who i seem to share the same personality with) walk around shirtless and seeing how in shape he was and getting very jealous, when it comes to stuff like this i get very competitive and want to look somewhat like him before im 22

which leaves me with about 1 year and 5 months to get busy,so what i want to know is besides the usual diet advice, what exercises should i start out with as a n00b in a gym,i don't want to go in there and look like a total idiot

so what exactly would you fitness gurus say should be a good beginning workout regimen

(i do have a creative zen vision m mp3 player and plan on making playlists for each set of exercises)

so please help the fat bastard out

Hi HitTheGym (I'm NOT going to call you a Fat Ass!)

There is a wealth of fitness knowledge on this site, and I'm sure you'll get a lot of input, I just wanted to mention that even our resident Fitness Gurus will tell you that diet will play a bigger role then exercise.

Knowing what is going in is a major step to losing weight.

You might consider checking out Welcome to wwwfitday.com or Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople they are both sites where you can track your calories, nutrition & fitness.

I did NOT want to ever track or count calories - but I found that once I started, I was able to see just how important it is.

Best of luck to you as you head to your goals - you might consider creating a journal in the diary section so we can get to know you

Again, welcome to the WLF

Welcome to the site...you will find lots of information here regarding exercise and eating right...and tons of people to support and motivate you...

I think it would be great for you to get a diary on here, and jot down what you eat, and you would be shocked to see how much extra you consume...I know I was!! Writing down what I have eaten through out the day and what exercises I've done has kept me on track...

Best of luck to you...I hope to see you progess and reach your goal!
