Hello! Losing Big.

Hi. Hope to use this forum to dig up a few good ideas and, in my own weird way, to find some motivation.

I say "weird way" because I have a feeling not everyone here will subscribe to my theory of handling weight loss and I know that hearing some competing notions and a chorus of naysayers might actually help me in some twisted way.

I'm in the process of dropping the first 50 of 100 pounds and wish everyone the best!

Steve Shrinkarino!

slimby43 has much to be proud of
hi and welcome. just had a look at your website. this is just my point of view but i dont think skipping breakfast and lunch will do you any favours. dropping your calorie and fat content by 75% seems too much to me. i may be wrong but i think you will end up losing a lot of muscle this way.
i needed to lose 100+ lbs in total and have so far lost 62 in 5/6 months. i have dropped my calories quite a lot (but then was probably eating more than a sumo wrestler) and am moving more and faster. i find that eating regularly - 3 meals and up to 3 snacks has helped and stops me feeling too deprived or hungry.
im sure someone more expert than me will be along soon. slim
ps well done for giving up sodas. i drink far too much of them and am finding it hard to give up

I'm not an expert, but looking at your plan it's going to set you up to fail in the long term...

1. Deprivation
Why deprive yourself -if you give yourself a reasonable amount of calories a day, you can have whatever you want within reason - no reason to deprive that just leads to binges

2. Medication
Practically every diet pill on the market says that the pills work in conjuction with a sensible diet plan and exercise - well if you have a sensible diet plan an exercise you don't need the pills.. save your money.

3. Movement
Walking is great -it's been my primary form of exercise but you also want to throw in some weight training as well...

4. Tracking
IN addition to tracking your weight daily, also track measurements biweekly and your calorie intake daily...

There's a lot of useful info on this site -much of it in the form of stickies... please read around and think abouot changing your approach - we want people to be successful losers and go abouot it ina healthy way

good luck

Maleficent,

Cool comments and tips.

Re: deprivation... I'm not worried about failure. To be honest, it just isn't an option. I will follow through. I know my system seems extreme, but that's what I, personally, need. Clearly, it isn't a good idea for most/everybody. Okay, it may not be a GOOD idea for me in the traditional sense of goodness, but it'll work.

Re: pills... You're right. They are unnecessary. However, they do take the edge off and I kind like 'em! The cost is a non-issue, I dig the boost. I'll keep 'em around for awhile.

Re: movement... Totally right. I introduce the exercise component here in about a week and it will involve both aerobic activity and some weight work.

Re: Tracking... I will look into the calorie tracking thing--that may be a nice addition to my current scheme. Nifty notion.

Slimby,

Thanks for kudos on the soda. It's a pain in the overgrown butt to kick my buddy Dr. Pepper to the curb... I'm sure I'll get over him, though....

Good luck

Good luck shrinking guy. Your plan seems too restrictive to maintain for a long time. But if it works for you, that's great. Keep us posted about your progress. 100 lbs is ambitious, but you seem to have strength of character and can do it.

If you deprive yourself too much, you will eventually start to lose muscle. Your body won't have enough energy from food, so the first source for energy would be muscle. You will be losing weight, but not the weight that you would want. If it works for you though, then keep at it, but just watch yourself.

Good luck!
