Question Should I loose more weight?

Hi I'm Tiffany and I'm new.

I wanted to know if I should lose more weight? I am actually at a "normal" weight according to the BMI chart. I want to get lower to just above the underweight line because I think that would be the healthiest spot for me. I'm not sure though if it would be healthy to weigh 105lbs and be 5'2". Does anyone think that would be too skinny for me? And would it be hazardous to my health instead of being better for me? (My mom thinks that it's an outrageous goal for the end of the year)

Even though that seems like a small number I feel that I could get there the healthy way, by eating right and exercising. Which I have been doing for about 4 months and have lost 6lbs. So based on what I've said what do you think?

bmi charts don't take into consideration muscle or bone size for that matter so your ideal weight is dependent on more than just the bmi chart.

I'm guessig your still a teenager, so I'd really caution you against being overly concerned about the number on the scale as yout body is still growing and changing, and having proper nutrition at this age is important.

I'd really focus on what you say you've beendoing - eating right and exercise and feeling and looking healthy and not being overly concerned with what the scale says

I've never thought of the BMI chart being very accurate.

I am still a teenager, hence the "16" <-my age. (Creative I know) I would be lying if I said that I wasn't worrying about it that much. I have been because of a lot of pressures in my life; my mom is constantly saying to herself "I'm fat and ugly." and "I have to lose some weight before we go on our vacation." Sometimes I just can't get away from her constant negativeness. Then there is the media that I look at maybe too much for my own good, mostly magazines because I'm studying to become a fashion designer and I want to see the latest designs. Lastly, my boyfriend, it's not him saying it but being with him makes me want to get healthier. Since he is in the military he is in such great shape and I want to be too. Pressure, Pressure, Pressure....I'm like a compressed gas tank.

I have been eating healthier than I did before and it has made a subtle difference. The thing is I've never eating that badly to begin with because my mom is the best cook in the world (imo). We barely ever go out to eat unless it is a special occasion. In the last year we've gone maybe 10 times or less. The problem with her being a good cook is she loves sweets, pasta, and rice the best. So that stuff is around me a lot but since I've been trying to get her to understand that I don't want to chow on that stuff she actually has been buying veggies! It's definitely been positive towards my weight loss.

I learned early about eating right because I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia last year. My doctor put me on a diet of Low Carb, High Protein and I lost a substantial amount of weight because it was around the time I joined my schools swim team. I was at 125lbs and during those two months of swim season I lost 6lbs and was at 118lbs. Ever since being diagnosed with this condition I now know I was out of shape (though it may have been hereditary). I always thought that I was skinny and that I would never have health problems but boy was I wrong. Everyone, not just those who are deemed overweight, should be watching their weight and more importantly their health!

My heart palpitations that were possibly caused by my hypoglycemia have virtual stopped since I started doing daily exercise. Instead of spending my time mostly reading and on the computer I prefer to go on bike rides and on a little thing I call "walk runs". Not all good has happened though, recently there has been unexplainable (to me) complications, I've passed out once and I often get very dizzy when standing up too quickly in the morning (thats probably normal). Since those things have happened I've limited my exercise to about every other day (30min) instead of everyday (30 min) like I was doing.

...oops...I wrote you a story. I'll work on being more straight to the point next time. ^_^

I dont think anyone can really tell you whether that would be too skinny for you
That's more down to you looking in the mirror and whether you feel healthy or not
seeing as you have had health problems then I wouldn't really advise that you conciously try to lose weight, more concentrate on being fit and healthy

I was a lot like you at your age and it's great to want to be healthier. Just don't overdo it. I have hypoglycemia, as well, and when I start to get really dizzy I know it's because I haven't eaten enough and I'll grab a glass of orange juice. Your body may be burning more calories than you're taking in, so it's going into starvation mode and storing as much as it can, rather than letting excess go. Good luck to you!

Jolie

Thanks for the support! At first I was a little afraid to ask...I thought a lot of people might be angry with me because I'm not overweight. I'm glad that the responses were positive. I support everyone in the forum and there aspiration to lose weight and be healthier. I will work more towards being healthy then being a twig.

I found your story very interesting Jolie, sometimes I feel like no one can relate to what I'm going through but now I know what I thought wasn't true. Your probably right, the time I pasted out was when I had WAY too much sugar; ice cream, cookies, cake, pop, and candy...not a good combination, then *crash* there I was on the ground. I freaked my boyfriend out really bad. I couldn't really just stop myself from falling but I eat the sweets in moderation with meals now.

I don't know about my body burning more calories then I'm taking in because I eat. Sure, I have cut the amount slightly but whenever I am hungry I eat. i just thought of something, possibly because I've changed my diet to eat more fruits and veggies I haven't gotten enough calories because they have a lot less calories. So while cutting the amount of my new diet would be like double cutting because I'm already getting less calories by not eating so many starchs and sugars. Don't know why I hadn't thought about that before, I'll try to not skimp on my food anymore. Ha ha no wonder I feel like crap.

catherine20 is just really nice
I think you should ask your doctor, as he/she would know about your condition more than we do.

hiiiiiiiii, i think that you should consult to your doctor for this kind of suggestion
,your doctor can suggest you better because he/she more familiar to you and your health.
