Glad to be here

Hi I'm Sona,
I'm glad to have found this board.

I used to be a big fitness freak,
I worked out regularly, lifted weights, etc.
Then a year ago I got very sick,
spent almost 3 months in the hospital
I had major surgery and lost about 2 feet of my colon.
Complications you bet.

I haven't worked out for a year
After my surgery, I just stopped doing everything.
I stopped exercising because it hurt.
Yeah I know, if you don't use it you lose it.
knowing that didn't help me though.
I guess I'm depressed.
when I'm depressed I eat!
I put on 40 pounds,
really bad for my newly rearranged insides.

I've just recently gotten off my duff
and am trying to get myself back into gear.
It's so slow and I'm discouraged.
I can't do a tenth of my old workout.
It seems like I am tired after hardly doing anything.

Ok so I've hauled myself onto the stationary bike.
Reopened a fitday account to track what I'm eating.
Dusted off the free weights and gotten the laundry off of my
weight bench.
If the temperature ever drops below 90 I'm gonna
start walking again....
problem is I still hurt when I move..boo hoo for me!
I'm trying very hard to buck up and quit feeling sorry for myself!!!

So I'm sorry for whining, please bear with me
and I'm hoping to meet new folks here.

thanks
Sona

Wow, you certainly have been through an ordeal! DOn't worry about whining, I can't imagine not whining given your circumstances. But your headed in the right direction, it seems to me.

Take it slow, don't compare yourself now to when you were in better shape. Compare yourself to the time when you on your duff unable to do anything. See the improvement?! You've already made real progress and you should feel proud. Now keep it going, slowly challenge yourself as you are able and you'll be in top form soon enough!

Best of luck on your road back to health!

Thanks David, for taking the time to reply.

You're absolutely right
I've been looking at how far I have to go
Instead of how far I've come

Words of wisdom and thanks for reminding me!

Hmmm how much pain you in Sona?

Do you think its from your surgery or just from being inactive for so long?

Because if its from your surgery I would think your doctor would be able to help by giving you pain killers or suggesting a new way for you to exercise that might not cause you so much aggrivation pain from your surgery.

Also that tiredness feeling you get is simply from lack of cardio exercise and once anyone builds themselves up with it again for a few weeks the tiredness subsides as the heart becomes energized again.

But yeah I don't know whats a safe exercise to do for you since you had such a major surgery.
