New here ideas

So I'm new, just found this website through Google. I'll get into the weight loss goals. I never really considered myself heavy. I'm about 6 foot tall. 20 years old.

When I was in high school I was about 210 to 220 pounds during fresman and sophmore year. I was about 5' 10" going into Freshman year. I played football those first two years but stopped playing so I could work and make a little bit of money for myself. Well this started me down a four year road that eventually led me to be 260 pounds.

Okay to keep it short. I was 260 pounds in November of 06'. Now I'm about 213. I've been running, working out a few days a week, and made some moderate changes to my eating habits, mainly just cutting soda out and drinking water. I still eat mostly what I wasnt.

But it seems like I hit a platuea, my weight hasn't moved for about 2 months. I don't want to run more than 3 times a week or more than about 45 mins to and hour. I could workout a little more and deffinitely do more to cut back my eating.

Does anybody have any ideas of what I can do or what has worked for you?
And
What's a good weight loss goal for a person of my height. I'm a bigger guy so I'd stay towards the higher end.

That's my rant take from it what you will, I wrote it in a rush before going to work.

Whats your ultimate goal weight?

For someone 6ft such as we are doctors usually either recommend we weigh 165 or 180 but I really think those recommendations are for those with a smaller over all body build.

Depending on your body frame you can be satisfied if you look good at 200 or 190 as far as I'm concerned.

As for you hitting a plateau hey you are nearing the point where a 6ft person can stop dieting or the point where you still need to lose extra weight but it gets harder to take off because your body is satisfied where its at.

Plateaus usually happen to people who have dieted for so long on an extremely low amount of calories and the body finally says thats enough and makes it harder to lose more weight.

If you haven't been doing that and have eaten enough calories all throughout your diet then you'll simply have to either reduce calories or increase cardio activity until you reach the weight that you want.

If you have been eating an extremely low amount of calories to lose all the weight then before you can break out of your plateau you will have to take a week or two of eating normally to reset your metabolism and then begin dieting how you did before to start losing again.

I see

I understand what you're saying. I can say that the 45 pounds I lost over the last 9 months or so has been from cardio (mostly). I also stopped drinking soda which was a major help. I also lifted weights, but I can't even pretend that I did that enough to have a huge effect.

Overall, I'd say I became more active than I have been. I think I'm going to start leaning away from the dieting aspect and concentrate more on the weight lifting. I'd be satisfied being 215 if it meant that I was mostly muscle.
