Sore, Tired, Unhappy But Hopeful

Hi everyone,

I'm at the point where I'm so sick of my body that I have to do something!!

Stats:
37 y/o
278lbs
6' 0"
58" waist

I work graveyards which doesn't help the equation. I gained quite a lot of weight after I was hit by a car in a crosswalk. That being said, I've always had some weight issues although when I was younger I was very athletic. The car accident (10 years ago) simply compounded an already present issue.

My feet are falling apart under me - I have stress fractures and plantars fasciitis. I snore, I'm tired and I'm so tired of having a body that can do nothing but slog me around from a to b. I used to dance - ballet for 13 years, swing, ballroom, highland, jazz. Now....well it's a different story.

I have about 100lbs to lose. If everything goes according to plan, that should take me about a year to lose. I'm really looking forward to getting my body back and being able to use my body the way I want to.

Cheers all

welcome to the site, and much success on getting to where you want to be.. 100lbs is absolutely do-able -myself and a few others on this forum have lost at least that - pace yourself and don't get too hung up on hitting a specific goal at a specific time.

In a years time, you might not be down 100 -but you'll definitely be a lot closer to where you want to be than you are today...

Plantars fascatis can often be helped a lot by having properly fitting shoes - many cases of it are caused by shoes that are just not supporting correctly -you might want to go to a running store and get fitted for a pair of shoes (a real runnig store, not a big box store, that will watch how you walk and guide you to the appropriate shoe)

6 feet tall - dang that's so cool -I always wanted to be that tall

the shoes? Well, proper insoles for me will run me 300$cdn.... so I do what I can with dr. scholls and exercise.

Thanks for the hope. I have a hard time staying on track and will often lose 15lbs just to gain it back again. I DID lose 60lbs when I left my spouse.... I gained about 10 of that back over the last 1.5 years.

I'm hoping to use all the tools online that I can to get through this though. I've also signed up on sparkpeople.

i've been on spark people for about 18 months and while some things I find a little irritating -the food diary is helpful and the articles are interesting reading...

If you have a hard time staying on track -why do you think that is - is what you're doing too restrictive? there's no reason to give up all your favorite foods, just figure out how to make it work in your calorie range...

Remember this isn't a diet -it's a lifestyle change - so the rest of your life is a long time -you want it to be a good time

You can definitely be there in a year. With the tools and resources here you can definitely find the support/information you need without resorting to expensive trainers or gyms.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your support. I'm doing what I can to stay focussed. Thankfully my partner is being very supportive. I woke up today to fgind that she had packaged up 'snacks' into portion sizes for me. She cuts up bags of vegetables for me. I work in a residential setting over night and the food there is CR*P, so the rule is that I can't eat anything from the house (we get a meal a day) until I finish my vegetables (about 3-4 cups raw).

How do y'all keep motivated?

Motivation comes from within yourself -

write down your reasons why you want to lose weight - ya know the real reasons not the bs oh i want to do it for my health reason that some people spout - the real reasons -you want to wear a sexy piece of lingerie, you want to show off to an old flame, find your reason - write it down and read it every single day.. put it on the bathroom mirror, the car steering wheel, your wallet -somewhere you will see it every day and remind yourself of it...

Absolutely!

You have to do it for YOU! Determination and perserverance are tools as well. See the big picture. KNow that each and everyday is an opportunity
to get closer to your goal and that each day passed is one step closer.

Have you decided on an eating and exercise plan yet?

Good Luck !

When deciding on a plan, and you don't need a real specific one - read the stickied threads around the forum for some general nutrition and workout guidelines.... pickone you canlive with for the rest of your life -makes it easier to stick with if it's not one of deprivation or chronic starving...
