Talking Another newbie

Hi everyone!

This is kind of hard for me to do because I'm very shy (even behind a computer). I have been viewing this board for about a month now, pondering whether I should sign up or not. I finally pushed myself to make an account, just as I pushed myself to sign up at the gym about a month ago. Not an easy thing to do, but it feels soooo good once it's done!

Anyways, my name is Sarah. I am from Winnipeg, Manitoba and I am 20 years old. I started Weight Wathers Points plan 2 weeks ago, and I also joined the gym 3 weeks ago. Since then people have been asking me non-stop "are you losing weight?" and my reply is "I'm trying!". I never knew my weight until last Wednesday when my dad bought a scale, so I don't know how much I've lost in the past 3 weeks.

I just booked a trip to Mexico and I do not want to go looking the way I do. I would never be CAUGHT DEAD in a bathing suit, shorts, or even a sleeveless shirt. So that must change because I REFUSE to dish out my hard earned money, only to go to Mexico and cover myself up and feel self-conscious. So, I have made the decision to change my life, not only to look better, but to live healthier!

Anyways, great to be here. You guys have all inspired me.

great to see one of our many "browsers" has joined with us. first thing i'd do though, is tell your dad to return the scale. Use the mirror (and friends compliments) to judge your progress. By going to the gym you will find that you may decrease your weight gain as you start to put on muscle ... this is fine! you will still be loosing inches, which is most important.

look better = live healther = look better ... it's a perfect match!

look forward to seeing more of your posts! Cheers

Hey, thanks for the welcome you two!

AllCdnBoy - I totally know what you're saying. I know that success shouldn't be measured in terms of pounds, however it is so hard for me NOT to associate the two together! My physical measurements have been dropping, clothes are getting looser, and people have been complimenting, but it is hard to get that overall "pounds" mentality out of my head. I guess it's because even though I know the scale may not be changing because of the muscle I am gaining, it still should not read as high as it is; do you know what I mean? It still shouldn't be over 200 lbs. I find myself obsessed with the scale and I don't know how to get over that. Maybe by being a part of this site and continuing to read everyone's posts it will help me

Hello again Sarah! When is your trip to Mexico? That is going to be so much fun. I hear you about not wanting to go and cover yourself up. I live right by the beach and I have yet to be out there in the last year in a swimsuit. I'm trying to take it all off by next summer. Let's do it together!

yep. me too on the covering up. i live in a beach community. eeks. i rarely indulge in it. coupla weekends ago i was brave enuf to do so. mentally it is so stressful to parade about in a bathing suit. i usually cover up in capri pants and a tee as long as possible. i certainly put more enery and thought into it than any onlooker does!

also understand the scale obsession. since putting effort into weight loss, i have been obsessed too. daily checks! which are not helpful and very discouraging overall.

this is a stupid comment, but don't be discouraged. Just keep at it and you will see progress. every once in awhile, you may even gain some fat back, but as long as you keep at it, it'll eventually come off. don't think of the weight loss as a weight. In fact, the longer you take to get the weight off, the easier it is to keep it off ... so, take a couple years, and it'll never come back

Welcome to the forum hun. I can tell you that you have made some great choices so far. This board was a godsend to me, I honestly just kinda stumbled upon it looking for something else and I've been here ever since. LOL! I never found what I was looking for that day, I found something a whole lot better.

Welcome Iwillgetthere!

I too am using a trip to a sunny beach as a motivator! Usually I have welcomed the winter... you know, lot's of clothes to hide under! But with my cruise fast approaching - and the swimsuit I have hanging on the wall of my kitchen (to keep me focused!), THIS WINTER WILL BE DIFFERENT! Then next spring I will definately be ready for the shorts and tank tops!!!

Let's do it together... you have found a great group of people here, good days & bad days... we're here 4 you!

~Danee~
